would it be cheaper to buy a new 300ex and switch all the parts for aftermarket to be national ready or buy a frame and start like that

start with the frame

if you brought a brand new 300ex that would be about hmm 3700 lets say

and say you spent about 4k on aftermarkey parts that would be like 7,700:eek2:

or you could get a frame and motor for around 1200 and start from there

y are you doing this to a 300ex i think its a waste you should adleast do it to a 400ex. something thats more racy, respected, and does more. but not my money good luck:cool:

Well, I say that it'd be best to start with a used quad, and just tear it down. Take the time to check the frame and motor for anything that could be wrong with it. Then, whatever you don't need, sell. Because when you think about it, you're going to have to buy little things like brakes, hubs, spindles, etc. That stuff can add up quickly.

what do you mean a more respected quad.... lets look at some facts

1. yes the 400ex is faster than the 300ex,,,modded or stock.

2. BUT the way we see it the 300ex can still be raced..in its class...and has been raced since 1987 with the start of the 250x......now lets look at the 400ex...nice bike,,,very nice,,,but where does it fit into racing,,,can't race in the 300,,,can't hold against the new 450's (thats machine for machine),,,so it seams maybe that respected 400ex has possibly fallen into that grey area of the warrior....no place for it really.

3. not to knock the 400ex..i got two of em...but there day has come and gone for racing....but the 300ex still keeps going.

just my two cents

Some people dont understand why people but Blasters and 300's. Its casue there too young to race 450's! lol. Thats why im racing a 300 at nationals next season becuase im not old enough to race a 450 yet.

16 years an older to race a 250x 300ex or anything bigger than a 90cc quad in GNCC (xc)

13-15 year old can ride 300cc 4 stroke and 200cc 2 stroke in nationals GNC (MX)

and of course if your 16 and older you can run the 300 in almost every class of GNC...if you dare lol

i race a 300ex in the atv jr class where i live and its all open ccs this will be second year racing mx in 2006
Find a used 1 check out whats wrong with, gusset the frame, get a 400ex front end get someone to mod your frame for that instead of spending oodles of $$$ on after market suspension, get an axle, tires, stick to stock wheels or get bead locks, if you can either get an 01 raptor rear shock or an aftermarket rear 1 i replaced mine with another factory 1 cause i didn't have the funds for an aftermarket 1 and b i couldn't find an 01 raptor 1 (warriors work 2 i did it for 1 weekend just rough trail riding).
Ok for the engine i'm just doin head mods including valve springs and cam and a header to me the 300ex is a beginner race/trail quad and try to keep it low budget as possible remember small bore quads don't need money invested into them as much as a 250r or 450 thats just me.
Of course don't forget to get a full exhaust and filter

If you were gonna be ripping it apart anyway why would you even consider a new one. ;) Get used.

I agree with the others. Buy a used 98-02 that is in good shape for dirt cheap. Then rip her apart. e-bay the used parts that are still in decent shape. and then build her up from there.
