Hare Scrambles and Cross Country are basically one in the same. Woods trails, fields...natural terrain....I love it

how long is one lap?

normally they are between 8 and 13 miles per lap but I have seen them as many as 25 miles per lap. The races last anywere from 1.5 hours to 3 hours depending on the series. GNCC's run for 2 hours. In a GNCC the top riders do 4 or 5 laps.

Some places require an aftermarket kill "tether" switch and a chest protector.

Other than a possible AMA membership and distict card.... You will be "decent" enough to race!

If you are only going to compete in local races i would say you need...tires, pipe, nerfs, skids, and thats about all you HAVE to have! But if your going to be in like GNCC or sumthing you will need to invest at least around $10,000 i think! In the August 2002 ATVAction it says "Unfortunately, it now takes a twent-some thousand dollar atv to win"

The only thing that is required on your quad to race GNCC's is a teather cord! There are all sorts of classes you can run from first year racer to 4-stroke stock to pro. Just ask Brent and William Howell (indyGNCC) they dominate the morning race on basically STOCK 400ex's. The twenty-some thousand dollar atv doesn't apply anymore. Chad Duvall won the overall from the pro production class on a modified 400ex and it is no were near $20,000.
If any exrider member is interested in racing a GNCC for the first time, contact me. We will meet you at the race, help you get signed up and pit for you during the race!

There's a Harescrambles in Tebbetts Mo. this Sunday. This course has a couple of rocky creek sections, but it also has alot of open fields so it isn't real technical.
XC racing will push you physically but, it doesn't require you to make big doubles or take chances.

GO FOR IT!!!!

Our quads are bone stock except for Renthals, and Holeshot XC's all the way around. We dont even change the airfilter. Pipes are also pointless if your internals are stock on your 400. You might gain 1 HP, then all you will do is piss the neighbors off. So just take your stock bike to the races and buy some Holeshots or Razrs.

not true,,,,,,if you take a stock 400ex and put an aftermarket exhaust on it....it will add up to 10hp(depending on the pipe)

I dont know, like you said, it depends on the pipe. You can get anywhere from 1hp to 5 or 6hp.
