Get a repair manual, either a Clymer or the Honda one. Between the manual and this site you'll get all the info you need;)

Do some research on deck height and squish band BEFORE you start your rebuild. Paying special attention to all these little aspects help to provide good, reliable power.

dont do what I did. I took an xr 80 apart one day, I was like 11. dident make any timing marks, nothing. I took the top end off.....

about 3 years later I ordered some rings, valve seals, gasket kit. I sat my but doun and must have stared at that engine for a good 2 days b4 I got it together again. I had a heck of a time figuring the timing out, but I got it.

then I put it back in the bike and shure enouf it started. ran like crap for a little while, scared me a little bit. but I guess the rings had to seat. because after about an hour it ran mint.

I tried to sell the bike apart for 150, and dident sell it. after I put it together I put it at the end of my driveway for 850 and it sold in a week for 800.
and the guy that bought it off me was a little skeptical when I told him that I rebuilt it. he was one of thoes dads that thinks kids dont know crap or somthing. I dono but he was a real jerk, but he had cash so I sold it to him.
