Not sure, what they changed.
I think they put some type of rectifier on it.
I haven't had a problem with that, take some time and tie the wiring harness up good, it rubs on the frame rails.

The issue was not fixed until 06. the 04 models and 05 models are exactly the same when it comes to the light/charging issue

You guys crack me up,thats the silliest thing I have ever heard.Your YFZ will charge the battery with the lights on or off, dissconnected or not.It does not charge if the motor is not running.Yamaha has been making bikes for ever, what makes you think they would do somthing as stupid as making a charging system that wont charge with the lights turned off.Comon get a grip you squids.

Where have you been. I hope you are being sarcastic. Yamaha even makes a kit that you have to buy if you want to take the headlights off. The yfz's rectifier is a bad design and needs a load resistance. They need to use a full wave bridge rectifier instead of whatever it uses.

Gump, give it a good charge overnight, it be right in the morning. What are you talking about anyway, didn't you get the hole shot in Laurens, must be turning over quick.
Check with a Voltmeter, make sure you are above 12.8 V. If you are below. Charge overnight, or until you get around 15 V. Should be ready to roll then. If you are getting below 12.8 afterwards you may need a new bat.

There are definatly 05s out there with battery problems, I could take a pic or our buddies 05 SE that they just put a CBR600 battery in. And for the record our 04 has never had a charging issue. Yamaha did change some stuff, like the stator for 05 but who knows if the changes were enough.
