Honest opinion here, but this is going from 400EX to 450R, I think you will smoke that 440EX, unless he has a serious high comp piston and serious port work done. THEN, it might be somewhat of a race, but the 450R will still take him I think. Like its always said, "There is no replacement for displacement!" Go for it Ronnie!

When I mess around in the woods I can get faster times on my 416ex. I have more seat time and have ridden those trails more on my 416. Now if we take ti to the field, my 416 has no chance in hell to even hang with the 450r.

I know my 416 isn't near as built motorwise as a 440, but it hangs with the one we ride with anyday of the week.

It is harder to build a good running and reliable 440, where anyone can make a 416 that run's ok.

Just my .02$

i have a duncan 440 and it can't even hold it's own with 450. hands down 450 will destroy it.

Well friend I have a 416 with stage two cam and good port work and all the trick stuff and I have a 450r with a pipe and jetting and filter and the 450 in a drag race will smoke the 416 but in the woods the 416 is more controlable but if you ride a 450r any period time you won"t get back on a 400 believe me when I tell you that cause my 416 just sits now. Good luck with your race I am sure you got the edge.

As far as hill climbs go, i do some pretty nasty ones on my stock 450R and I know a guy that wont touch them on a 440. The 450R revs all the way to the top as to were a 440 will bog down.

unless it has a real High comp. piston, st. 2 or 3 cam, port and polish work and more

You will probably beat him if it is juast a regular 440

i can tell you the most because i went from a 440 to a 450. its a huge difference. the 450 will win. no if and or buts about it.

I have a 440 and a 450r.

When the 450 was new(stock) it would beat my ex. I then rebored, same size, new cylinder, the 440. It would then beat my 450r, in the sand dunes. That was with 2 different riders, switching back and forth.

I now have an 11.5:1 Wiseco, FMF slip-on, and an ESR airbox eliminatorkit in the 450. The 450 is back in the lead. My opinion is that a well built 440, can beat a close to stock 450r.
