Running without airbox lid?

I tried it for the first time today with a PRO DESIGN filter kit. It seemed like it had more power but the intake noise sounded awful. My wife could here it down the block and said it sounded bad. Do any of you guys do anything to muffle that noise but still get the performance? Such as leaving the lid on and just cutting big holes in the lid? Thanks guys.

Whats wrong witht the noise? All it is is air being sucked through the engine. ON my cousins modded banshee he runs K&N's directly on the carbs, personally I think it sounds good.

you can cut or drill out a couple holes out of the LID, but i recomend leaving it off for better air flow. Mine did make a noise, but i dont think i could hear it from down the block!

I am running mine w/out the lid w/stock exhaust & everyone I ride with seems to think it sounds better than normal. It seems to have a deeper throaty sound to it.

I never noticed a noise coming from the air box without the lid on. I have a White Bros "E" silencer, maybe the exhaust muffles mine.:D

I run mine without a lid, and you cant hear the airbox noise from a block away.... A BLOCK???? But i also have a megamaxII and usually you hear the rumble from that. I am running a 170Main BUT if i put my airbox lid on which has 6 one inch holes drilled in it, I can only run a 165.... ...

Maybe not a big city block, out in the woods where I live it's pretty quiet and I have the stock exhaust system. so you can really here it. Thanks for the response guys.

thought the PRO DEGIGN filter kit was where there was NO airbox
which would be y there is more noise than the guys with just the lids off

Her hearing is just selective like my wifes. You know airbox noise, calling her names, you see.:devil
