I was looking to do a little updating on my 86 TRX250R and was wondering what all off the 450's EX's Etc. fit on the Old R and make for a nice upgrade? Im looking for a good replasement over Stock on Shocks, Etc and didnt wanna spend to much cash.. ~coop

PS: Can someone also recomend a good thumb throttle? I upgraded to a larger Carb and even replased the cable and it still seems you need a super thumb when compaired to my other quads?

front spindles will work on the 250r.... handle bars till to :D
if u get the spindles tho, u gotta run the whole front end setup, AKA spindles, hubs, brake calipers. I run that on my R and i like it, the spindles are a bit stronger than the 250r's

axle will work, but u gotta run the 400ex hubs with it. bearing carriers will interchange

and i cant understand wut ur question is with shocks

450r shocks will raise the front of your R. The 450 shock out back will lower your R. I have ran both at different times while mine were getting repaired. They also are not a direct bolt on either, the rear was a pain in the *** to fab up

On the shocks I just wanted to know what others will bolt right up? Ive seen some misc. on ebay and wondered if the ex and 450r will work and are they an improvement over the stock 250R shocks.

I dont ride the R all that much, And the stock shocks really arnt to bad. I plan to ride it a little more and was just wondering what little odds and ends improvement upgrades I can put it without spending much cash??

Thanks Guys! ~coop

250R 400EX and Z400 shocks are all interchangable. The EX and the Z will make the front end sit a little taller. Unless you can get some used Elkas with zero preload for a good price. Or try and get some z400 shocks and C&D Racing do a kit on them. Send in your stock rear shock and have C&D install the Elka Zero preload dual rate kit on your rear. I'm REALLY happy with mine.

A stem from a 400EX will work if you find an aftermarket on Ebay. Yea the spindles will work, but you'll spend a lot of money and have to either buy adapter so you can use your 4 piston caliper from the R instead of using the 2 piston calipers from the 400EX. If you can find some, get spindles for a 89 R and call RPM. I believe they sell a bearing spacer kit so that you can use the 89 spindles on you 86 set up. There nicer, you won't have that little tab that comes loose all the time for your tie rods. The 400EX conversion is nice but some cash.

450r rear shock will NOT work on a stock type 250R linkage.

The adapter to use 250R calipers with 400EX spindles will rob you of $150~$200.

If you do not have brakes/spinldes a good alternative is to use 450R parts since the 4 piston calipers are much cheaper and the spindles are lighter.

When using a 400EX axle you also need to get a 400EX rotor hub/anti-fade.

The 450r rear shock will work with the stock linkage! I am running that setup as we speak. The bottom of the shock that the linkage bolts to has to be opened up alittle for the linkage to fit inside. I am running it as a temp until i get my rear shock back.

Yes, I know it can be used by grinding on the shock but why buy a shock and then use grinder-happy engineering just to have the wrong geometry. The 450R shock isn't designed to be used with the 250R's leverage point.

The 450R fronts are a direct bolt-on.

i would never put 400ex spindles on my R. The brakes on 400ex are not even half as good as the stock R twin piston brakes

400EX spindles with 250R calipers = a good lightweight braking solution. I got my 400EX spindles with RPM hubs for almost less than half the price of a new set of RPM hubs so buying the $200 adapter did not bother me at all.

Had I not gotten this combo at such a good price I probably would have installed 450R spindles, hubs and calipers.

yeah the 45or set up is tight and it looks like it may actually bolt on to the R not sure if it will or not

The linkage mount on the 450R shock will have to be milled/ground to fit on a 250R linkage.

alright, we'll see what happens with mine
