What is actually considered the T mark on the crankshaft?

I noticed that on the crank there are more than one mark. 2, | about and inch or so apart. 1, || and then 1 with ||- (I think this is called the “F Mark”.

Which one would I go by when setting the timing on a 2001 400ex with the 440 big bore kit and WB racing cam?

I was thinking the first | mark.

Reading this article (http://www.exriders.com/tech/valves.shtml ) on Exriders.com, they show the || for the T???

it's the second one, if i remember right from doing it. the T may be sideways, but i don't recall exactly, but i'm pretty sure it's the second set of marks. i know i passed it several times before i got it right :D

Daren, that pic you attached is the T mark...its a line with a sideways T. I just adjusted my vales a few days ago and had a few problems at first. I would line up the line next to the T, but I couldn't get the feelers between the valves...had to rotate the flywheel around again to the T. It's kinda trial and error until you get the feel for it.
