This thread is for people who have owned a 250R and 450R or currently both.

I love 2 strokes and want to continue riding a 250R but it is impossible to find good parts and new parts are so expensive. So basically I want to know how the 450R really compares in ride/handling suspension. Because I'm thinking of getting a new 250R motor and putting it into a 450R that way it's like a new quad.

Thoughts - and forget about costs. Because this way would be way cheaper than building a new 250R out of 250R parts. 10K 450R vs 20-30K 250R.

Go with a 450R! I believe they are easier to ride, have better suspension, and handle better.

This is just MY OPINION............

Dollar for dollar invested the 250R will be much faster. As far as ride quality, that is in the eye of the beholder.

I sold my 250 because I couldnt see putting 8-10K into a quad that was 19 yrs old and even after investing that amount of money it still wouldnt "worth" the money invested.

I choose to invest the money into the 450. It is newer, parts are readily availanle and will be for quite some time, although they are just as expensive.

I rode a 310 for a couple years as my race bike and loved it. Just got too expensive as a race bike to keep up. I parted it out soon after I bought my '04 450R and built the 450R up. The 450R is way easier to ride and I'm way faster on the 4-stroke than I ever was on the 2-stroke just cuz its easier to ride. As far as handling, cornering, etc......I thought they felt pretty similiar and my riding style fit well going from the 250R to the 450R. The 450 doesnt feel as "neutral" in the air like a 250R does but that just takes some getting used to.

You'd be better off just buying a 450R instead of going through with the project, I promise you! You can build a nice 450R and have a reliable machine instead of a "hybrid" in a way that you'll have to fabricate motor mounts, exhaust mounts...plus all the other stuff you'll have to "make" fit.

Just my opinion......do what ya want :D

Keep the 250R for a second quad when you get the itch for the two stroke and go out and get yourself a 450R for everyday riding and you'll be extremely happy. Eventhough the four strokes are a better machine, there is still nothing like the feeling of riding a two stroke. This way you'll have the best of both worlds.

I think what I need to do is put some real seat time on a 450R before I go put a lot of money into my 250R. I almost bought a used one last year but after taking it for 5-minute ride I was unimpressed with the bottom end, but after reading a bunch of posts I figure that can easily be corrected with a few mods.

Thanks guys - probably I'll have to go with both to really compare them. I'm sure it would be fairly easy to sell the 450R if I really didn't like it.

I would keep the 250r and just buy a 450r like the other guy said. This way you have a choice what you want to rip.

I loved my 250r but am much happier ridin my 450r as it has better brakes and with the hrc kit and a few other mods it is a holeshot machine and I am winning my class in X-country and 2nd in moto-x! I am 44 yrs old.
