Alright, i got a 440ex setup for MX. I was thinking... in january when the season starts up im going to be switching to either B class or A class, basically i will be getting into racing a lot and maybe go to nationals and such if all goes well. Im wondering if i should run my 440ex or would a 250r be a better race quad? I dont have the money to be buying a 450 so what do you think of the 2 vs. four stroke idea for racing?

Im sure if u spent all winter tearing the 440 apart n selling all the aftermarket parts then selling the quad pretty stock u could afford a 450..

But i would go for the 250r over 440

The 250r is a good way to go, it is very light, jumps great, I like they way my old 250r goes through the air better then my 450r. I have a completley race ready 250r. For sale $4,300 . I use to race Xc on it but I also raced alittle bit of Mx on it too. I would kill the fourstokes on it. I even thought about turning it into a Mx racer at one time.

Deffinatley a 250r. You can get way more power out of a 250 with a bolt on big bore kit than you can with a totaly worked 400ex in most cases. Not to mention the 250r is the best handling quad ever made.

How dependable are the engines... I know they run liquid cooled, i just dont wanna be putting a new topend in every 6 months
I had a blaster before and had nothing but problems

Leave out the word handling and your completely right too.:D

Go with the 250r. I'd still deffinetly pick the 250r over the 450's.

I've seen piped 250r's, pipe only stay dead even with worked yfz's, just mod the 250r and you will kill.

Yea a big bore kit helps I put a 330 on mine and it seems like everyone got a lot slower :D I love my R and I race nationals on it. I havent had any problems out of mine since I got it in 02. If your interested in it I have some pics.

250r is great but if you cant afford much you better not get if your going to be racing heavy unless you dont mind rebuilding the 2 stroke motor every year. i have a 400ex and for what i do it is great but i ride trails and it is not setup for the technical racing it is just all that you want:ermm:

if ur in it for the raceing, and fun. go with a 250r. i love mine to death. best handling, tons of get up and go. but if ur in it for production classes, u gotta run wuts being made... and a 250r just isnt being made.

also, u cna run a 250r for years, if u mix the oil/gas right, and always have a fresh filter. but if ur in it for the racing. usually a new top end every winter does the trick. they are only like 150 bucks for everything
