buy the little flap that comes with the hrc kit or make your own so water doesnt hit directly on the filter. i have the hrc lid but 2 of my friends made there own flap and it works just as well:macho

I believe the 06 lid is different than the 04-05's. I would leave it on if you're worried about mud and water.

Outerwears makes a water proof cover that you can get and all you have to do is drill some holes and put bolts through them to hold it on or i think you can buy the whole set up

Outerwears has a whole airbox lid cover that is held on by velcro.

For XC I wouldn't run with no lid. I would look into buying the GT Thunder intake velocity stack. Maybe you can remove the stock deal Honda puts in the lid, and replace it with this, and that should allow some more air.

Cut your lid and buy a airbox cover to put under the lid to keep water, dirt etc.. out

I know on my 250R I don't run a lid.....and I cut as much as I could out of the lid then I bought a Twin Air filter for a Banshee cut it so it will lay flat and laid it on the airbox then took the cut lid and and put it on top of the filter and airbox and snapped it down....I have never had a problem.....I oil the Twin Air and the UNI.......and the UNI hardly ever get dirty

THE 450R one is not velcro!

I just made a HRC lid and flap! then i put the outerwars over the lid not under it so that the water will run off and not get traped!
total cost <20.00

I race XC and have used the EHS Racing lid for about three years now and I love it. I put an Outerwears over my filter and use the EHS lid and jet it like I didnt have a lid and the jetting was spot on. I will be buying another one for my 06 450R.

The velocity stack wont work on the 06, it already has something similar. They got rid of the snorkel and put pipe in the rear of the airbox lid. They also got rid of the box things on the intake tube to the carb. Umm, air silensers or whatever their called.

Do this, I have had great success with this set up. I use a UNI, but you can use a K&N if you want, and an airbox outterwears that stretches over where the lid used to be. You now get to run without a lid but at the same time keep ALL water out. The outterwear also filters out most everything and only lets the fine grit and dust through. It has allowed me to go longer on a filter before cleaning. It's great set up, no water gets in, but it breathes like it wasn't there.
