View Full Version : 2005 GNCC "Ironman" Round #13 Live Coverage

Admin
10-22-2005, 03:05 AM
Crawfordsville, IN - The Final round of the GNCC series is finally upon us, and it seems like we just finished up at Texas as another year has come and gone. The Ironman will live up to its name this year as only those that can ride the fastest and the smartest will finish out front with heavy rain turning this race into another mudfest to finish out the season.

With Championships on the line in many classes, Saturday's racing should be full of excitement with three different rounds of ATV racing starting with the Youth Racing at 8AM.

If everything goes as planned, live coverage updates will be posted throughout the day, so keep checking back for updates.

I dont want anything, I just got lucky enough to know someone down there that is getting reception. My brother is racing B, he is running last or close to it. He was Missouri's B class champ this year and is ussually pretty fast, Dont know if he got stuck or if the B class in Nationals is just that fast.

Also, the earlier wreck I spoke of a guy got out of wack in a whooped out section He was a little shaken but seemed to be ok. I dont know who it is.

And Yosh why arent you racing man?

FYI on the Outlaw Question. I raced in the morning and a shiny new Outlaw Pulled in behind me on my 2nd lap and rode for a while. There was an Outlaw on the track during both the morning and afternoon races but he was not racing. I spoke with the rider afterwards at the Polaris tent (where they let you ride the Outlaw) and he mentioned that he was just out playing around during the races. Even saw him fly through the PRO pits in the afternoon. The rider was wearing an orange saftely jacket so people would know he was not in the race.

Neither Smiley or anyone else was racing the Outlaw that I saw. He'll be on one next year though.

Great job to all who competed in the Ironman. It was my first Ironman and I had a great time.

Congrats Chris. The smile on your face was easily from ear to ear. The racing yesterday was unreal. Ballance and Yokley were back and forth all day! The track looked awesome. Mile 4.5 was the big hill, several flips and tumbles. A little before mile 6 was a pretty decent creek crossing followed my a knarly mudhole. It was freakin awesome. Unreal at how rutted everything got in a hurry.

It was definitely an experience. I recommend going to a GNCC to anyone that likes riding in the woods. The pros were unbelievably fast and it would make the average person look like a turtle. Absolutely, unbelieveable!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say the race was a blast. The hillclimb section over by the bridge was absolute mayhem. I don't know how the racers made it thru the sea of people in that area. And of course there are those spectators who love to see the best action and point the racers up the knarliest hill so you either make it and get cheers or you roll back down or should I say flip back down and get cheers too. Thanks to everyone who signed the kids jerseys, they were thrilled. Extra special big Thanks to Johnny Gallagher for the jersey. One of the friendliest and greatest racers at the track. Hot in pink too. LOL LOL Great to see so many MO and IA racers there. Even Andy Kyner the Iowa series promoter tried his luck and skills on the track. WOO HOO!!!! The only thing I didn't get to do was get my picture taken with Stack, the fastest and greatest utility rider in the WORLD!!!!:D

That was my first GNCC event, I had a blast. Before the race everyone was getting me a bit spooked about the hill climb, however once I came upon it I didn't think it was to bad. The first time I attacked it form the center, the other 3 times I went to the left from center lane. Great race and great times, I'm hooked.

Was he riding a Wolverine? If so I helped him after he did an endo down a nasty little downhill. Who ever it was I asked him if he was Wolverine that I have seen post on a few sites and he said no he was from the Iowa Series and was just here permoting and having fun. I hope who ever it was is ddoing OK. It was a nasty looking crash.

I helped Ken Robey get a vine out of his way after he was trying to go around the wreck. Kind of cool getting the chance to actually help a racer out when they are on the course.

Yeah if it was me running it the Center looked to be the easiest. The Right side as you were coming up the hill had some nice whoops in the middle of the hill. I seen several people have problems right there.:eek2:

gpd005
10-24-2005, 10:50 AM
The line right in the middle was perfect in the morning but got real bad in the afternoon. The very far fight line was by far the fastest but it was also the steepest. But everyone i saw hitting it was making it with no problems what so ever! I just came straight thru the creek and straight up and it i got a little help from some of the spectators. I've never seen so many people on a hillside like that it was awsome!

Jake250ex
10-24-2005, 02:23 PM
Popo I saw you a couple times over at the hills by the bridge - when you got close to the top, pulled a wheelie and it sat there and balanced as you crossed your fingers and leaned forward stuck out in my mind! I helped pull your quad up that time.

I didnt even go back there during the morning race... I couldnt even imagine how it was :eek2: Anyway, to those of you who say all of the spectators screwed people up, I absolutely agree with you. However, they also helped EVERYONE who came up short of making the hill. A good tradeoff I think.

If anyone stayed for the bike race, and you thought those hills were chaos for quads you aint seen nothin yet! I almost got ran over several times standing in places where you think theres no way somone would try to climb! One hill eventually became a step up, which was what most everyone did and all the pros took the one to the far right with the bump in the middle of it.

Oh yeah, Jason Weighadnt sucks at singing the natl. anthem too :(

10-24-2005, 02:33 PM
I'm very thankful for the people that helped me out! I was almost in tears when my bike started to go over one me, if it wasn't for them, I definetly would be at the bottom in alot of pain! Thanks to ALL the spectators that have helped me through-out the season and years!

Why is this even a Debate... Who really cares... i know Foltz personally and i have ONLY MEET Yoho... Both are Great people (Kids i guess i can call then seeing as how im 22...:huh )

They are the Future of the sport if all goes well with Pocket Books...$$$$$$$$....

I know for a fact Brent Doesnt have Endless Pockets and i cant speak on Yohos part but I have to say they are BOTH AWESOME...with what they are given to perform with...

Seeing as how i was either following them or Being passed by them all season i cant say if it was a good race year for them but like i said i have head it from all angles... I just hope they both go to A or stay out of the B class that im going to.... :eek2: :D

Im just tired of yelling till im blue to get the utilities out of my way and then getting ran over by them and then haveing them cause the biggest bottlenecks i have ever seen... there are some out there that can run with any of the sport quads but im just tired of them breaking ME and MY quad... all my damage to my quad in the 10 races i ran came from UTILITIES...

NO MORE...

Hope to see ya at a race...:)

The utes have to pretty much run in the morning so race in the afternoon if you dont like them most of the time they create better lines. How many times did you finish overall better than all the utes not many I bet because they finish pretty high unless its real dry. I think they should run more pits and hills in the morning so the utes can have a better chance to podium since the women and utes have no where else to go really.

big bad beny

Well the Races where i didnt have to bash through the Utilities i did farily well.... It is just getting through them all... i know of only 3 races where my class didnt start BEHIND the Utes.... and those 3 i got top 50 ... and i understand that the morning is for the VERY VERY Amatures but i think everything would be better if the Utes started behind the Sport quads.... I have NEVER EVER EVER Been PASSED by a Utility....

and yes im going to run Afternoon next year so i guess its not a discusion anymore....:huh

and also i think that the Women, stock and some C Class guys can run away from any ute .... not saying that the utes arent fast just that they cant be thrown around quite like a Sport quad... so the more hills and valleys and what ever still wont hurt the Sport quads especially with the Talent in the womens class and the Leaders of the C Classes.... unless we put a 1 mile strip of swamp in...

You know the utes have no where else to go they should get the glory not the stock guys the women and the utes before stock was big ute guys got on the podium and never been passed by a ute? I think your wrong Michael Swift 3rd overall at the Penton and ute stock was third to last row.
when it is real dry and tight the utes should start farther back when its muddy put them up front so they dont have to climb over sport quads. What i am sayin is if you want awesome overalls or something race in the afternoon half the C class guys shouldnt be finishing as well as they do. Real C riders cant keep up with alot of the guys on the utilitys.

I seen Sports ramming a Ute at the Ironman.

The Ute was trying to get around a down rider and instead of the sport giving the Ute a second to get turned around he kept sticking his nose in cause problems. If the sport would have gave the Ute a second he wouldn't have wasted 10 seconds. But that is racing you want to get around as many people as you can.:macho

I was about 5 feet away trying to get the downed riders machine out of the way and I was getting ready to tell the gentlemen on the Sport to Calm the F down.;)

if you ask me, and nobody did, racin is racin. If you're faster than the guy in front of you, pass him, if you're not, keep practicing. If Utes are so darn slow, it shouldn't be to hard for someone to pass them. The pros don't seem to have a hard time passing anyone.

Man, I'm kinda bummed, I was hoping to see some more pics of the am classes at the Ironman. Someone took a pic of me at the start, I think it was from here so I was hoping to get a look at it, I had my best modeling pose going, I call it "Cold Steel".

I sure am racing Big Valley this is the second to last one ever out there so I am told. I broke my peg off and nerfbar at Malvern so as long is i get it all fixed should be good. You remember Buck Banusky from last year he came back at Malvern talk about a difference a year makes I use to never hang with him so after I broke my peg I waited and waited for him then I raced him and past him and put like three mins on him in one lap with one peg he was like damn times change.

As for the class goes it will be Open again or Four Stroke since those are the only classes im eligible for. Prob Stick in Open for another 5 years then go to Senior 1. How bout you? Whats your brother racing next year? I am racing 4stroke or Open B at Nationals if you meant that though.
