alright im looking into buying a PEP steering stabilizer for my 400ex. i have a slight idea what a steering stabilizer does but im not 100% sure...so i wanna find out. so i need to know everything about them...what exactly they do, how to mount them, how to adjust them, all that good stuff...also is there any other brand better for PEP that is under $150? thanks

basically what they do is make your steering stiffer so you will be able to take hits and not feel them as much. I wouldnt get the PEP just because it only has 2 adjustments. I was about to buy the PEP and then I was told about Denton. I got a Denton Rebuildable 8 way adjustable stabilizer from C&D for $150. I would go with the denton.

i'm not sure if the pep is rebuildable, but I know the denton is. WHen I get one it will definently be a deton

They mount on the steering stem and then up to the front frame rail. There should be instructions when you buy it. If not wherever you buy will tell you exactly how to install

once you get one, you will never know how you rode without one. I had a pep on my 250r, I liked it. I have a denton one on my crf450r quad, its good, but it needs to be rebuilt. its abit over 2 1/2 years old. I really didn't notice much difference between the two.

a steering stabalizer as far as I know will not work with that oil cooler. I think you could buy a GPR or Scotts and the would work. Search around on that i'm not for sure, and post back with what you found out.

There are 2 different designs for steering stabilizers. A linear one like the denton and pep, then a circular like the GPR, WER, or scotts. They both mount somewhere on your frame and link to your steering stem. The linear design uses a piston and the circular uses a wiper, which travell through a chamber filled with a light weight oil. When you adjust the stiffness your just changing the oil flow through the piston/wiper.
It is generally a shock absorber for your handlebars.
