probably not the smartest thing to do...make sure you let it idle and it gets warm, then ride the piss out of it

Ya dude, hondas are cold blooded! You just have to give it a little gas while its choked for about a minute or so and it will be fine.

Go up 1 or 2 sizes on the pilot jet. This will help some of the cold starting problems. Try a 42 and work from there.

Mine would do the same thing stock. It got worse after the FMF slip-on muffler. I backed the pilot screw out a 1/2 turn and it helped alot.

every 400 is like that, the dealer even said they are harder than hell to start. Best thing i did to mine was a #42 pilot jet. Seriously, just pump the throttle a good 3 times and hold the throttle a l;ittle bit and start it. after that just keep the throttle feathered till it starts running good. You can still use the choke if you want, but its not necessarilly needed.

thats what i do now.it starts right up but wont stay runnin'.
a size up pilot will help this?
i took it out today and it started right up,i used the throttle to raise the rpms a hair and left it there for a min and it was fine.
guess thats gonna be the norm from now on,eh?
like phildogg said...its nothing bad.ill get used to it.small price to pay for the amount of fun
:D
thanx for the input

my 400 has to run a good 15-20 minutes before it will idle by itself on half choke....just learn to be patient.....
