It's supposed to keep heat in the pipe and help the gasses to escape faster. I had it on my old pipe for a while and it trapped moisture and caused the headpipe to rust very badly. I really don't think there was any noticeable performance gain. If you must try it www.summitracing.com sells in in several widths and lengths.

if your worried about heat, i think ceramic coating the header will cool it down a bit.

I would just get it ceramic coated, dont waste your time with heat tape.

I have always thought about using heat tape and getting my pipe ceramic coated, but have not.

I come from 2 strokes where the pipe is critical for power. Engineers spend a lot of time designing these pipes for high performance.

Do they design these pipes with heat tape on them?
Do they design pipes with ceramic coatings on them?

How does heat tape and ceramic coating effect a tuned pipe?

It would suck to spend a lot of money on a pipe and de-tune it by putting something on it that it was not designed.

Anybody ever doing any testing like this before?
