hey, wheres a good place to have my heads ported and polished?, has anyone had this done, and how is the power gain?, is it noticeable, and is it worth it, alos how much did it cost?thanks

If your even just average at mechanical stuff, you could do it yourself. Air tools like a mini die grinder are great. But you could even accompilsh the job with a dremmel tool and some hand files. There's tons of info on this site and on the web. I did my own and it was a piece of cake. I all I did was a minor port widening and smoothed things out, nothing drastic at all, and the increase in performance was about double that of when I removed the choke.

i heard somewheres on here that if u do the port and polish that u should only do the exhaust.

port and polishing smooths up and opens up the intake and exhaust ports for better and more effient flow of the exhaust gasses and air fuel mixture. it is not required for big bore application but greatly improves performance.

is it worth the money to do it with an almost stock motor?

a port an polish is woth it anytime, there are some mods that i would do before the port job, but it would definitally be worth it. i would suggest a good exhaust, cam, and piston before the port and polish, or do it all at once while you have the motor apart.

yeah, when and if i port and polish my heads, im gonna put in a stage 1 hot cam, ill check the piston, but will probably leave it stock

stage 1 is for stock bore maybe even a 416 correct me if im wrong. the new stage 2 and the old stage 2 now stage 3 is for bigger bores like 426 and 440s ect. the new stage 2 gives u more mid to top with out losing any lowend and stage 3 gives more mid to top but u lose a little lowend.

Yeah ... why not the intake??? I did mine. Have you ever looked into your EX head? There's plenty room for improvement.

you can enlarge it, but don't want to smooth (polish) it. the ruff cast helps create turbulance and mix up the air and fuel better. i've done plently of cylinder heads on V8s, and assume the same principles apply to these small engines.

how can anybody port their head without a flowbench reading ? you are just guessing unless you use a flow bench.:huh
