I need to get the gussets welded onto my frame and I have a mig welder but not a tig. Will it really matter when welding on the gussets? My frame is a ****ty mild steel 2000 400ex. Thanks for the comments!

no it does not matter just make sure you clean the parts really good before welding

I ask because some one said that with the steel on ex frame being weak that there is more of a chance of it cracking if it was wig and not tig welded. I guess because the tig heats evenly?

It would be awfully hard with a stick, but I would think MIG would work just fine.

TIG is more complicated, but more flexibility and easier to control once you learn how. TIG is less likely to blow through, but that's about it.

TIG you can bring the heat up slowly, it takes time and pracitce to get good..The second you pull the trigger on a MIG welder its at 2700 degrees, it will blow through if your not careful, also make sure its on a bottle (carbon) or you will have a dingleberry nightmare, and it will look like crap.

mig is fine. I sugest sandblasting the frame as prep work, it really works wonders.

The mig will work, it just need to be set right and will help if you are good at using it. If you can set the welder and runa good bead then you shouldn't have any blow through trouble and you should have no trouble laying a good bead.
