The wife and I are moving to Manhattan Ks and there is a lake 10 mins from town. We were talking about getting a jet ski next summer and wanted to know what kind you all thought was best and dont say Polaris, I worked at a polaris shop and there junk, always changing out complete motors and burning holes in pistons, the jet ski guys in the shop hate them with passion.

My family got a yamaha wave runner 650 91' model new. All we ever had to do to it is change the spark plugs last year and a new battery a couple times(typical). Yamaha makes a great jetski. My uncle has a kawasaki it was pretty good but it was a b*tch to start after it has been in storage for awhile. I'd look into the new turbocharged honda 4 strokes those are cool too.

I just love the guys on the 750's and 900s that claime their jetskis do 70mph...I just smile and walk away

Yamaha Wave Blaster is the shizzle if your jumping waves, But there isnt too many waves in a lake. If you are buying something new HONDA without a doubt ....used older yamahas are great/reliable...ventures, raiders, gp760/800/1100s, stay away from gp1200R's trust me. As far as polaris goes...your right they suck as well as the old tigershark, I wouldnt take a tigershark for free ....JUNK

Get the sea-doo rxp or rxt. They are the same ski's but one is a 2 seater and one is a 3 seater. Both have supercharged engines with 215 horspower. They are the fastest and best handling ski's on the water. They will do a true 70 mph. The only time I have been beaten on mine is when I race another sea-doo and the it is all in who gets the jump off the line. They are just awesome.

There's a lake called Tuttle Creek, or something, out by Manhattan. I've never been on the water, but we've camped there. It is nice and quiet. I hear the stand up jet ski's are so much fun. It looks like you can do more stuff on it.

If you get anything but a real jet ski (stand up) you are going to be missing out on a ton of fun and a great way to keep you and your girl in shape!

You can master any sit down couch out there and be bored to death in no time !!

The couches also use a ton of fuel, so buy a regular boat if you must have a wimpy sit down couch!!

I recommend a 96-06 Yamaha superjet, you will not regret it..

Below is a picture of me and my 98 Yamaha Superjet ,this is my first year jet skiing and I learned at 40 years old !!

Well there is no PWC called ski doo, it's seadoo made by Bombardier and I would not buy another seadoo. Stick with Yamaha or Honda! We've owned several waverunners and the seadoo is in the shop 10X's more than the yamaha's have been. Besides, Bombardier is french owned, another reason to not buy!!

Everything thinks seadoo is the best PWC, but it's only because they have an excellent marketing group. Yamaha and Honda just don't advertise 1/2 as much.

Standups are great in calm water! Try riding those all day long in a large lake with big boats and you'll be hating yourself. You can do anything on a Waveblaster that you can on a stand up anyway, it's the same hull!

honda and yamaha only!!!!! my dad had a older yami for years and started every time.. imo yamaha makes the best marine engine around, weve owned 2 boats with yami outboards and make regular runs to the bahamas never 1 problem other than a simple thermostat going out on our previous 250 after 6 yrs, and that was the old school caburated one ... i basicly live on the water and the hondas and yamahas are gona last, the seadoos are just made to break down

I rode and repaired skis for about ten years before getting into the quad scene. In my opinion as far as dependability it's hard to argue with Kawasaki. They have the STX15F which is awesome for rec riding and wont scare the crap out of you. Its a very dependable 4-stroke (the marine patrol uses them) and they have plenty of cargo room. SEA-DOO is also great but dependability is an issue. Their RXP is the fastest stock machine right now, 4-stroke supercharged, and is comfortable for two. Yamaha has a few great models too, they have the GP1300R which is an awesome machine it's a 2-stroke EFI. They also have a 3-seater that is a damn caddy in the water (FX series) which is also a 4-stroke. Also notice that 95% of the time the jet ski rental places only carry Yamaha's, why? Because they are fairly inexpensive, and reliable.

Now as far as handling I would say the kawi is the worst. They are unpredictable and seem to always tilt win they jump. The Yamaha is good but not great, they tend to porpoise (jump) like crazy even on flat water. The SEA-DOO handles the best hands down. And in my opinion the styling and looks of the SEA-DOO are second to none.

Honda is ok, they handle great and look ok. The only knock I have against them is how damn slow they are. They are 4-stroke turbocharged and they get completely blown out of the water when matched against the RXP (SEA-DOO).

Polaris is a joke, they are light years behind the competition! The only ski they had that was bad *** was the PRO785 those things flew! But they were ticking time bombs.

So there are my thoughts. If I had to pick one today it would be the SEA-DOO. Yes they are not as dependable but they are fast as hell and can really carve the water.

The shop I used to work at has an 85mph RXP.

And its pretty easy to get a Yam 1200R w/tripple factory pipes and some other stuff like NOVI carbs, MSD, R&D reed cages and some porting into the 85's. That's a scary ride!!

Yes, it was a '98 SPX but we sold it and bought a '94 Waveblaster. The SPX was in the shop all the time. Of course the way it was rode had nothing to do with all the problems we had, did it????

Of course the Yamaha's get rode just as hard and jumped just as much as the SPX and I've had the Yamaha's worked on just one time!

10-20-2005, 09:09 AM
yea those SEA-DOO's were a *****, they were very undependable. We had a 99 SPX built for closed course racing in District 7. It was a complete superstock, 67-68mph @ 8500RPM. We would blow em away at the holeshot and never look back, but we did get a few DNF's. I remember rebuilding it 3 times in one season which consisted of 9 races. WOW!

I want to get another one in the future, but damn once you start modifying them they get stupid expensive!!

I'm itching to get a 1200R and get some factory triples for it.

10-20-2005, 09:15 AM
I WANT TO BUILD ONE LIKE THIS:

http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/9724/rius6yg.jpg

http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/7044/rius22lk.jpg

Thats Rius' machine, its freakin nasty!!!!!!

That carbon seat alone is $1800, the hood another $800. The tripple pipes $2500 the carbs $1500 and a whole mess of other engine and hull mods. Beleive it or not that bike is worth over $50K!

Same hull?? :huh The last waveblaster I seen had a seat and fixed handlebars. I've seen a lot of freestyle pics of waveblasters in the ocean doing backflips and stuff, but I've never seen a waveblaster do a nose stab on flat water, and that's a simple trick on a standup in flat water. I got to ride a fully modded ultra 150 that was gps'ed at 80mph, and it was scary fast in a straight line, but what fun is that?

I'm not referring to the Waveblaster II, the originally Waveblaster has the same hull as the stand up.

In 96/97 I had a Kawasaki 1100 zxi...3 cyl, 2 stroke...it put out 120 hp and 803 lbs of thurst....During that time the zxi, seadoo gsx limited was king of the water...I would run anything on any givein day...some days I would beat the gsx and some days the gsx would beat me...the yamaha gp 1200 had good power but wasn't very fast...mine would run in the mid 70's...

they were alot of fun....Iwould hate to own that one now since the gas prices went up....I think 4 stroke now....

Last summer I bought the Yami FX 140! Yes it is big but it really takes waves. My other ski is a Polaris 650SL and that thing beats the crap outta me. I do plan on selling that and getting something bigger. Anyways, the FX (which is 4-stroke) hauls *** and so far I've had it up to 60-62mph and my eyes were watering. I was anti-Yami until I bought one. There comfortable as hell, the power is there ect......thumbs up!

I got to ride a brand new Kaw 800 SXR over the summer, man that thing handled like a dream! I could do leg drags on it within the first five minutes of riding it better than I can of my older 750 that I've had for three years. That will be my next standup for sure!
