Tire Size Vs Wheel Size

What is the largest width tire you can put compared to your wheel width?

Example: what is the largest width you can put on a 8"x8" wheel?

Could you put a 18"x10.5"x8" tire on this?

I have seen 18-11x8 on 8" wheels, they are fairly common in my area on motox. Is that a size you are looking at or just an example?

I just bought some 8" x 8" wheels, and I was looking to buy some tires to put on them for MX style riding. I have 9" wheels for XC and 10" for dunes.

I am thinking some 18x10.5x8 Kenda Klaws.

I always ran turfs, you might look at them. They slide awesome and if you groove them can get good traction. I know one guy who has 18" klaws, they do a good job too, they slide and everything pretty good. You shouldn't have any ttrouble fitting that size on those rims.

I thought about the turf tamers, but I do not know how to groove a tire, nor do I know of any shop that does. I think C & D does it if I remember reading correctly.
