Hey guys I am contemplating getting a cam for my 01 ex. The engine now is bone stock. I am wanting to hear the difference between the hotcam and the magnum cams stage 2 cam. When I do this mod I will be putting a Curtis Sparks or LRD full exhaust on the bike. Thanks for any info......Chris

I can olnly tell ya the diff between Stage 1 & 2 Hotcams. Stage 1 sucked cause all the power was at the bottom. Stage 2 is great but it's recommend that you have a larger cc engine. Alittle Port & Pol does a world of good.
Them Magnums are too new to me. I don't trust 'em yet.

ive put a hotcams stage 1 (old stage 2) in a stock 05 400ex with a jet kit, airfilter, and whitebrothers e2 slip on exhaust and it pulled hard all the way to fifth gear. i know honda changed some minor things in the 05 engine but havin experienced the hot cams stage 1 in a bike i would def go with it. the power is really smooth and usable

nope, stage 1 is the same, old stage 2 is now stage 3 and there is a new midrange stage two. The only difference i now of is price really. i believe the specs on the two are the same or very close, the magnum is just the "off-brand" and cost less.

well im sure that the spec card i had for the old stage 2 was right because it said stage 2 on it and unless hotcams messed up their website the side by side comparison revieled all the same specs between the old stage 2 and the stage 1, unless u can show me some evidence to overcome that sidebyside comparison as far as im concerned the new stage 1 is my old stage 2 and hotcams came out with two new profiles for a wider range

Web cams are re-grinds, which means LOTS MORE $$$$ You'd have to turn in your old cam and get your rockers hardend at the very least. You might need beefy springs for the wilder grinds. It's all about 3x more expensive than droping a Hotcam in. The differance in HP gains is very minimal.

i know i cant even get cam specs on the hrc cam , mag cam or web cam. i got them on the hot cam. the hot stg 1 is the same there is a new stg 2 dual pattern good bottom good mid good top. and the old stg 2 is now stg 3 motox cam. a little confusing

sorry guys just emailed hotcams about the issue and turns out i was right and wrong at the same time. they said that when adding all the new cam grinds to the website some got mixed up and what i was comparing old stage 2 with stage 1 might have been true when they first started changing the site, but now all the grinds are with the proper stages and according to them if i still had the card it should go with the stage 3. Sorry bout the mix up. So altering what i said above the stage 3 works really well in a stock 05 400ex and id go with the sparks full exhaust with a better air filter and make sure to rejet when you do in order to get the full potential out of the whole system.

the stage 3 is a good cam for what mods ur planning on doing and the overbore u already have. u'll notice a good deal of power increase. i noticed a good deal when i put it in my buddies stock 05 and he couldnt be happier with it.
