how do you tightin the chain on the kfx 400?

loosen the 4 bolts on the swing arm, once those are loose tighten the two small nuts pointing out from the back of the swingarm and it should draw the chain up(thiers only one nut if you have an 04 or newer) once u tighten that, crank down the other four bolts on the swinger and you should be good to go.

There should be 1 to 1.5 inch of slack. Don't tighten it too much. A tight chain, & a hard landing can crack the case half.. A manual is a good thing to have.
