checking oil in 250ex '04

Is there any sertain sequence that has to be done, or do you check it like a car,(after it has set for a few min take the plug out, wipe it off, screw it back in and take it back out to see what the oil level is at)?

It should say in your manuel... i usually warm it up for a minutes and shut it off then let it sit for a few minutes, and check where its at.

I dont have a manual for it. Is there any perticular oil that i need to put in it? Or can i go to the parts store and get some oil, and what weight(10w30ect.)

thats what i do except dont screw the plug back in

the manual reccomends 10w40 i usually go to the dealer and get the pro honda oil thats just the easiest thing to do for me
