I know someone who has one, I jumped on and it was pretty darn fast. I think it would be worth the money.

Im more worried about reliability of the motor after the kit is installed. Any problems with your friends?

The ESR 480 is way mild for a 450R, and where it should be..With this kit MAYBE a 3-4 HP increase.

Send it to Millenium and get it striped, bored and re-plated, and throw a 13.5 in it with a big cam, then it will run well.

My friend has a esr480 and it is a waste of $$. He also has the lightened flywheel then the rest of the engine mods are the exact same and he was 1hp and 1tq more than me. Same dyno one after the other.

esr 48 it is nice, but a waste in my opinion.

Call JH Racing, www.j-hracing.com, and get a 13:1 JE piston and Stage 2 hotcam, with gaskets for 300 bucks, and that will wake it up more then the 480 kit, and be very reliable motor.

He has no problem with reliability. I don't know about other peoples quads, but the one i rode and seen flat out smoked almost every quad he lined up against... If he would put the fcr carb on it, it would be even faster. Maybee it was the rider?

All of my 480s are modded and run very well!

If they suck so bad, I wonder why a ESR 480 won 4 stroke wars?

Thats what I say also!!:D But if I was going to put a 480kit in my bike I would also get some head work done also.

ESRs porting isnt great...No flow bench work whatsoever..12.5:1 for a 480 is WEAAAAKKKK....

Be better off building a stock bore, I guarantee you'll get beat, then you will be one of those guys that has to say its stock, cuase its emabarrasing that you got beat..Not trying to flame, just reality.

If you think the "480", the black one that is, the one that is a 560 now, the same bike that was at the 4SW this past year, rider named Darren, was actually a 480, your crazy, LMAO.

I agree don't go with a ESR port job have a good motor guy do it.

So your saying that the black 450r at 4SW was illegal because it won the 500cc under class.

For one the 480 kit you will be buying is not the same as the bike that won 4sw if that is the case.

Im saying that im almost 100% sure it was a stroker..but thats just what Ive heard through the grape vine...

I too have raped many ESR 480s with my stockbore...BUT I also got raped by the "ESR 480" that won 4SW under 501 Open this year, so NO its not the 480 kit you will be buying. Like I said before the ESR 480 kit is a big ole waste.

Its Millenium technologies, they do boring and replating. So does Max power, and Us Chrome. All of these guys are located in Wisonsin. The Problem with the Esr 480 kit is that it has low compression only being at 12.5:1. 4 strokes love compression, the more the better. If you are going to go to a 480 kit make sure you get something with at least 13:1 or above. I know of bikes with 480 kits at 14:1 compression. These bikes are very fast!

For the least amount of money you could send your stock cylinder into Max power to have them bore and replate to 97mm (480). Cost $250. Than buy a than buy a JE, Wieso, or Hammer piston for $250 or less. Total cost for a 480 kit would be around $550 with the purchase of a new stock base gasket and 97mm head gasket.

You would have to install this setup your self or take it to your local mechanic who usually charge $60 an hour total install time should be around 3 hours so $180 + $550= $730.

Cheaper than a lot of 480 kits without install price.

Just my opinion.

Thanks

Jake.............

Ok -- lets say I follow your opinion and go that route, would the head need to be ported?

Sorry to jump your thread, but does anyone have any opinions on the athena 480 kit? I heard that they make a good increase in power in the crf, but that about the trx?

No going to any big bore kit you will not need to port your Cylinder head.

With any mod you will not need to port your head.

The 450r head comes stock with reasonably good head flow.

Proting this head should be one of the last things you do to this engine to get that last little bit of Hp..

For example you would want to go piston, cam, pipe, ignition, than porting.

Of course this isjust my opinion..

Over at the .ORG someone is selling a wiesco 14:1 480. This would be a great buy for someone looking to go to a 480.

So I should run that stuff first then tear it back down to port the head?

Wouldn't it save money to port the head while it is torn down?
