So I just got one of the hrc kits in at work right. I was looking at the sub harness they give you to bump the rev limiter up. It looks like all you have to do to get the same effect is to cut the one wire that they let out in the harness. Me and my brother tried it on mine and it seemed to work didnt get ride it much but it seemed made a diff. Will ride it more tom. Has anyone else tried it? I think it could be the ticket

We got ahold of a HRC kit today and noticed the same thing today.....we're gonna test our theory tomorrow hopefully to see if it works! I think Honda was just trying to be sneaky.....and we smart consumers just caught onto their little scheme! Muuhahaha!

Is this just for 06 models or for all models?

Which wire are you cutting? Can you post a pic?

just got to ride it today with the wire cut. dont have a tach to put on it but seat of the pants it feels like it has worked and it makes a pretty big dif. When your looking at the cdi box its the plug on the far left it has 4 wires you have to cut the green wire. sounds almost to simple i know. ill try and get a pic as soon as possible.

Besides adding 1000rpm it changes the ignition advance curve. If it's the much different it might be worth puting a toggle switch down there or maybe up on the bars for different riding styles?

Great thinking!

what happens when you try that little trick on the 04s or the 05s?

The CDI boxes are completely different on the '04s and '05s. The '06 CDI has 3 plugs where the '04/'05 CDIs have 2 plugs....so I wouldnt recommend it......

If Honda meant for it to happen, they'd included a similiar wire module in the older HRC kits.

Somethings not consistant here. Honda's info about the HRC kit says if takes it to 10,000 rmp's the rev limit stock should be about 9,850. That doesn't sound like a 1,000 rmps. Does the kit say 1,000 rmp increase??

The wire module bumps up another 1000 rpms, up to 10,850 which puts it almost to CRF range. The kit is discussed in detail on ********.com also....

So I cant do this to my 04?:(

RedRacer44
10-18-2005, 08:31 PM
No, you cant! The CDIs are different....you wont be cutting the same wire as you would be on the '06 CDI. The '04/'05 HRC kits werent manufactured with this in mind.....

THIS IS JUST FOR 2006 TRXs......

Got nads?

If there are any dirtbike guys here correct me if I am wrong but I believe that you could cut one of the wires(green wire) on the CRF450 CDI to achieve the same 1000rpm gain. I was told this about 2 years ago then the TRX450R came out, as I looked into doing on my 04 but couldn't!

I can't believe anyone would waste their money on a HRC kit. Honda mecanic's themselves say their worthless. Jet to 195 main, leave the rest of the carb alone, full LRD exhaust, SPARKS aggresive cam, K&N, remove lid, and you'll be ripper. HRC kit is a $400 cam. Period.

+2+1's did me right. Their not the norm, but mine work awesome with a stock length swingarm. Front and rear are MOTOQUAD. Marx is the man!

I dunno, I thought the HRC kit with everything was 250ish. I don't like that style of cam but some ppl do and I know if you start running high comp pistons, the HRC cam is a great finishing cam.

I was reading some threads on Thumpertalk and read about the mod that they do on the CRF450x it is very similar to this................Just goes to show how similar this engine is to the CRF450x in fact I think its the same engine.

In the CRF world its calle the PINK Wire mod.

PINK Wire Mod (http://dirtdiggers.de/images/pinkwire/)

This is were I got the info from:

Pink Wire thread (http://crfsonly.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2444)

also do a search on crfsonly.com or thumpertalk on the pink wire mod and you will find a ton of info.

Ok, cool. I read in Honda's Red Rider ATV magazine that it bumps it to "a full 10,000" from 9,850. That's why I question it. I hope it was a misprint though.

What you say is true about the HRC, but The same applies to Sparks. So you basically did the same thing you are preaching against. The Sparks cams are Just repackaged Cams from other companies.

Companies you can usually go directly to or use a dealer and actually save money, Instead of paying "the Man" :macho

Yeah isn't the sparks aggressive the same as an 02 CRF cam?

The Sparks cams are either the CRF cam or the MegaCycle cam...depending on which cam you buy. Both are cheaper buying direct or from a dealer, so you pay Sparks for the name. LOL, I cant say too much though.....I run Curtis's pipes religiously so

Mostly.

How much did the LRD, Sparks setup cost you though?

We will see the facts on this, but Honda is claiming a 24% horsepower increase for $360. If they're lying and you only get a 15% horsepower increase that's very good. It seems to me like the stock exhuast on the '06 has more potential that the 04/05 exhaust. It would be nice to know that if I did have some trouble down at the Oregon Dunes with their 93 db noise restriction and spark arrestor requirement, that I could rejet and throw back in my baffle and be well within the sound requirements.
