I have access to a 98 or 99 (im not sure) wr400f. Are they basicaly simalr to the 426f engines?? I know the yz400f's are very similar to the yz426f's So are the wr400f engine's basicaly a yz400f engine with different timing and gearing just like the wr426f when compared to the yz426f.. This was kinda a hard question to ask. Does anyone no what im saying..haha.

OK, the YZ-F WR-F 400-426 are all the same, except the WR has a wide ration tranny,so it has more top-end.

other than that the 400F and 426F are the same, except the 426 is bored out,and has ti valves(the 2000 426F didn't have Ti Valves) also the 98-99 had difrent igniton than the 426's. the 98 also had a diffrent carb than the others, the 99-2002 YZ-f had the FCR39 carb.

the 98 was harder to start than the others, but they are all super reliable motors. Also rip, the 98 400F made 47hp, the 426F makes 49hp.

so,get the wr if you can,it would be a great motor, and you ccan get a 426cyl and piston and Ti Valves for a lil under $1300.

thanks alot man!!. Great!! is all i can say!.. I think i might do a litle work to the engine once i get it, mybe update it a bit. put a new piston mybe bore it out and get it ported. And mybe fix the kick starter, i heard the earlier model break easily or something. (the kick start gear)

Well, the only reason alot of people messed up the kick-starter is becasue they thought they where big and bad,and didn't need to use Comp-Release,but you do.
