i was going to get a 450r and he tells me that they do not last long cause of there piston is really thin plus he siad that u will have to change something in the motor like every week and i argued with him about how long they last and he siad that there really used for racing and so just dont get one cause they wont last long like things falling apart

if u maintain it, it will last forever, just like any other quad u buy.

I hard the same thing before I bought my 450r when they first came out in 2004 but that was some kid that knows someone who raced a CRF450r dirtbike and they did have alot of maintenance so he thought the trx450r would be the same way. My 450r has never had the engine taken apart and I have A **** TON of hours on it since 2004 and all I do is change the oils alot.

Mine has been awesome for the most part, but if you race them they are eventually going to fall apart. I have had clutch problems, frame issues, but that is about it. Awesome machine. Just keep the oils changed, and do your routine maintenance.

Ive had mine since Feb. Averaged 80 to 100 miles a week on it. I wiegh 365 pounds and the book says 240 pounds max wieght so I beat the heck out of the suspention. The only problem Ive had so far is I had to put new brake pads on it. Ive taken through mud bugs as deep as the airbox and made it when 4 wheel drives was having problems with it. The chain and sprokets are worn out but with that many miles and the mud and creeks I ride in thats to be expected. Change my engine oil every 5 to 6 weeks, check my aircleaner every ride- clean when needed, and keep the radiator fins cleaned out. She runs like a top (knock on wood). I even had a guy that dislikes Honda making a deal on one because he watch me bore through a mud hole that he wouldnt try on a 4x4 polaris, he said if the R engine would hold up to my abuse a Honda ute engine would last him forever.

I think if you take care of most quads, they will last, but I have also seen folks never take care of their quad and its still ticking away 2 or 3 years later. Just some folks have bad luck, from personal experience thou I have seen more major problems with Honda 450rs then either suzuki or yamaha, but seen alot more minor problems with YFZ's then with 450r's. I had two buddies 450r's have the weak crank bearing problem, Honda did fix one of them even thou is warranty had expired, major props to that.
