Will it hurt anything to go from a 19x7x8 tire to a 16 or 18x6.50x8? This is on a stock lt 80.
Thanks for any help you could give.

no not at all in fact it will make it a lot more stable. The only down fall is it will lower the ride hight little.

If you go from a 19 to a 16 it will KILL your topend speed. And from what I understand there aren't to many gear setups for the lt.

I went with 18x9.5x8 Turf Tamers on the rear of my son's LT80. It added 2.5" to the width and really hooks up.

If you retain the stock chain (520) you can use blaster front sprockets to get your top end back.

Junk the 520 setup, use RM85 front sprockets, they make them from 11-19 tooth and run a stock 1987 LT80 rear (26 tooth) or give your local parts house a yell and get a 24 or 25 tooth rear from sprocket specialist P/N 467-24 and 467-25.

The stock zuki rear will be a $20.00 bill the ss sprockets will run around $35.00 and are aluminum. Front sprockets are available at any dealer that uses Tucker Rocky for a supplier. JT is the least expensive brand for 11-16 tooth (around 12.95 each) Sprocket specialist can build 17-19 fronts and will run you 11.95 each. P/N 502s-# of teeth

There are alot of gear setups available, just not enough people willing to share good info.

Jack Moore is the LT80 GURU, I would bet he will agree with my statement, as I have gained alot of info from his posts on many different forums.

Thanks for any help you could give.

Here is our 06' KFX80 +3 team axle out back, spacers on the front, stock motor, with gearing as stated above in 428 pitch, with 18/6.5-8 snohogs. I ordered N700 nanco's and shredders in 16/6.5-8 today to round out our tire selection.

I'll be glad to help out as much as I can. Bill

Any good local parts house (local dealer) that uses Tucker Rocky distributing can order these tires for you.

On the Nankang (nanco) N700 that LT80 (Jack) recommends, those your dealer can get through Parts Unlimited.

You can also go to recreationtires.com and search lt80 tire packages and get good deals from them as well.

They're carlisle snowhogs (same company behind itp) go with the 18" as they are actually only around 17".

I taped mine right at 16 1/2" tall. My sons basically run just TT and Flattrack stuff. Can't ever hurt to have a "few sets" of tires around for the lil guys huh?:D

here is a 18/6.5-8 snohog next to an American Racer 15/6.5-8 slick that has been cut for TT

IMO run the 18x6.5.8 Snowhogs. Lighter than turf tammer better wheel spin for the Lt.

The tires you listed were front tires, I don't believe you would benefit by going to an 18 or 16 inch snow hog on the front. Only help they would provide is dropping the center of gravity in front since there not very stabe to begin with. Snow hogs on rear cheaper than tammers.

We've run snow hogs and tamers on the rear and now run shredders 16x6.5-8, which seem to hook-up and perform the best so far (at least for mx). For the front we've tried stock, snow hogs, and trail wolf, but by far the best so far are front max 20x7-8 (again for mx). For racing my kid is completely happy with this combination. I too got these from recreationtires.com

we too feel the shredders hook up nicely and chose those.

I saw a pic and articlel about the Extreme and wondered what the rear tires were they are running..
Looked like a little bigger of a tire . I would be interested in more info on it .

Can you give me a link to the "16x6.5-8 shredders"? I have a 01 Lt80 and am trying to figure out what kind of tires to get. I was considering the n700's and snow hogs but now I wanna check out this tire too. This bike isn't raced or anything. It's just for playing around in the yard for now. So far it is all stock. I replaced the front bumper with a factory z400 bumper and also used shortened z400 handlebars then just painted the factory wheels black.
