An MXZ 600 would be a nice all around sled . Personally I like the MXZ 600 SDI . A late 90s /early 2000 MXZ is a pretty nice sled .

The Yamaha SRX was the fastest sled out of the box in its class and they also handle very well . Actually the SRX will run with most 800s and I've seen it eat 900s .

Arctic Cat Firecats also a nice sled . Ive always liked the ZR 700 from 1999.

I dont have much experience with Polaris .

not sure what size/model but I saw a Polaris snow mobile at the drag strip this weekend. Ran low 7's in the 8th mile, it had rows of little wheels instead of the skies up front

I have a yamaha rx-1 warrior which is a great trail sled and very fast. It handles pretty good but is a little top heavy from the big 1000cc motor out of the r1 street bike.

alot of these guys are listing top performers that are very expensive. if you dont have a crazy amount of money to spend, look into the early 2000 ski doo mxz series, the 500 and 600 are nice sleds and you can find them anywhere from 2-4g used. also check out the polaris xc500 and 600 as well.

both of these are reasonable priced and will do fine in trails. the 500's can get up to 90+ in good conditions

If you want something alittle sportier and up to date i would say check the Ski-Doo rev platforms. the revs have a rider forward design which makes riding alot easier on your body, and have great suspension and handling, and power too. check out the rev 500ss, its basically a 600 motor but cheaper than the rev600 ho.

i dont even have a snowmobile i just spend alot of time researching and reading up on them because next year depending on how things work out i plan on getting one, either the ski doo or polaris.

No other way to go then the Ski-Doo Rev. They are so far ahead of every other sled out there right now. Yamaha and Polaris just came out with there rider forward designs, but they still have a few tweaks to make to them. The Rev has been out for 3 years now allowing Ski-Doo to make all the tweaks they need. If you have the money, definetly go for the Ski-Doo Rev.

thunder cat 1100 all the way, they are fast as h$ll, they'll do about 150 or so stock

No such thing as a thundercat 1100 and if there were it wouldn't go 150 stock. My dad's ZR 800 has 152 hp and the 1000 thudercats have about 166 hp. It doesn't go much faster.

SKI DOO love mine id go for a mxz 550 basically is a 600 but non H.O some use your money and get the X package i wish i have had

ny300exrider

the 550 is the fan version and the 500ss is basically the non h.o.600. i hear the 500ss is a better choice over the 550f but i think they only offer the 550f with the X package but not positive on that one.

i would love a 500ss

Definitely liking the Sno-Xer Greg.

I agree with most of these guys get an early 2000's MXZ or the REV. I have a 2000 700 MXZ setting at home that I'm looking to ask 3200 for, so they are not real expensive for a decent sled.

Ya ... I wish it was sitting in front of my garage instead !!!! If I could own any sled out there , I'd prolly take that one !!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I have a 500ss, and yes the 500ss is a better choice. It is the same engine that the pre-REV 600's had, its just not the H.O one. My dad has a 600 HO and I have the 500ss and we are pretty much even in a drag except he has about 5 more mph on top end. You can also get the 550 fan in the non X-package.

yeah i meant out of the 500ss and 550f, the 550 is the only one offered with an x package. i dont think they offer a 500ss X but could be wrong.

did you get your ss new or used? good deal?

if you got some pics of it post em up, the 500ss is my favorite sled

before we all say get a REV or Firecat or IQ.... how much are you looking to spend?

late 90's early 2000's polaris' are very nice... if your looking for fast and cheap a Polaris XLT is a good idea they are fast as hell. we had a XLT touring that would break the track loose doing about 60 on groomed trails. or u could go with the classic indy 500. or to tell you the truth an indy lite 340 will do almost 100 mph if you have the balls to go that fast on a sled that isn't made for high speed handling or suspension.

the MXZ's from around 2000 model year are very nice i have rode a couple of them... also some of the skidoo formula series are really fast.

arctic cat also has some really nice sleds. the older sno pro 440s are pretty nice and have good suspension. and if you want more power a zrt 600 puts out really good. my uncle has one and he has ran 115 in a radar run with it and it has the torque to flip over backwards off of the start if your not careful(i found that out the hard way... standing straight up at 20 with the bars to my chest)

i don't have much to say about yamaha's though.... i've never rode anything newer than an early 90's phaser(i think thats what they are called) so i'm not going to say anything about them.

The only thing bad about some of the Ski-Doo formula models , are that the cranks go out on them very easily . It is a very common occurance on most of their triples . My buddy has a 98 Mach 1 , and he had to replace the crank twice under warranty . Ski-Doo then came out with a bulletin stating that the 3rd cylinder on their 700 and 800 triples weren't getting enough oil through the oil injection mechanism . So if you buy a mid 90s to late 90s Ski-Doo , ask the owner if he has done the upgrade to the sled .

The 440 sno-pro from Cat isn't too bad , if you like running 110 Octane or more and having to always mix . For trail use , you'll have to change the domes to be able to run 91 Octane and do some fine tuning . They are a bit of a pain to ride on the trails though , cuz they are very snappy on throttle.

I dont have much experience with Polaris like I stated before . About the only model I've ever liked from them was the Indy Storm . Polaris = Pull Off Lake Repair In Spring !!

If you go Yamaha , go with the SRX like I said before . Fastest out of the crate ... slap on a pipe , play with the clutching and run it against the 1000 triples . Handling is also pretty good with the Ohlins suspension . I wouldn't get an RX-1 . Too heavy and too big . Great mountain sled thats about it . The hype about the motor was a major let down to those that bought the sled after they took it out ... especially when 600s were blowing it away.
