i cant make up my mind on what to do. i got a 400ex with 440 kit with 11:1 compression and stock head and cam. at first i wanted to do 13:1 with stage 2 hotcam with 3 angle valve job and port and polish. but then i was thinking i would just go up 12:1 and stage 2 hotcam. then next year i would buy a stock cylinder and bore it out to a 416 and make into a 450 stroker. then i got a friend who has a yz400f dirtbike forsale cheap the bike is wrecked the motor is good. my main question would i notice alot more power with just 12:1 compression piston with stage 2 hotcam, and i would probaly smoothin up the exhaust ports.

if u go with 13:1 i think u have to run race gas.

anything over 11:1 you need to mix pump and high octane atleast, other than that, i say go crazy if you want to! do a 460!

not true, there was an review done not too long ago with the kit on an long travel 400, against an pro mx'ers (dont remember who, i will find out) 450r, and he said he was able to do everything he could on the 460 that he could on his 450, but the built 450 still had more power all around

how much hp does a basic 440 make with 10:1 compression and stock cam and head? isnt it around 35 40.

Theres really no reason to do a 440 with a stock cam and head. You wont get much of a gain. If you just want a little more grunt just bump up your compression with a smaller oversized piston so it saves you the cost of resleeving.

If you do plan on getting a cam and porting down the road, the 440 would be a lot closer to its potential.

I doubt a 10:1 440 with a stock cam and porting would be any higher than 30 - 32 hp if your running a good exhaust too.

i said in my first post on here that it had the 440 kit already installed. bought it like that. and messed up on my last post its 11:1 not 10:1.

A cam would be the best bang for the buck right now. port work would be great to.

12:1 or 13! would deffinatley help but I wouldnt go any higher than you are with out a heavy duty rod.

I'll be selling my wb1498 cam here in a week or if your interested, but you will need some hardend rockers for that.
