I talked to a friend of mine at the local honda shop and he said he was afraid that the new motor would not be as reliable as the 04 and 05's because of the changes like higher compression and so on. He said there has been no one even to bring in a 450r for a rebuild yet . he said they have not even sold a piston. (small town) I am sure other shops have seen there share of rebuilds but i was wondering what others thought on this? Has anyone put mainy hours on the new 06 yet to know the top end longevity?

I WAS TOLD MY NMOTION THAT THE 05 S HALF TO BE FRESHENED UP EVERY 70 HOURS AND THE 06 IS HALF THAT TIME

CRF450

Ask Around, the TRX should be the same amount of Hours between rebuilds.

MY BEST FRIEND IS THE SERVICE MANAGER AT A HONDA DEALER HEAR IN OHIO. HE HEARD ABOUT THIS AND HE CALLED HONDA MAIN OFFICE AND TALKED TO THEM. AN 05 IS SUPPOSE TO HAVE NEW RINGS AT 25 HOURS AND THEN ON REBUILD WITH PISTON AND RINGS EVERY 50 TO 70 HOURS. THEY TOLD HIM THAT THE DIRTBIKE IS EVERY 25 TO 35 HOURS . THATS JUST WHAT HONDA SAID

25 to 30 hours seems ridiculous

If my rings went out would it be covered with a warranty?

Also please stop typing in caps lock

that's total b.s.
only the hardcore racers change their piston and rings that often

FYI: Since you are unable to make facial expressions, or change your tone via text there are standard computer etiquette rules. It is well known that typing in all caps means that you are YELLING at the person. Don't yell if you dont want to get yelled back at.

The 04/05 did have some problems. I know the 04's had a few crank bearing failures.

Back to your question.
The compression went from 10.5:1 to 12:1 compression that's a moderate increase in compression. But no more compression than a CBR600RR has. How often do those motors need rebuilt? But, also at the same time the stroke was decreased by 2.8mm's wich will reduce the side pressure on the piston, reducing the wear somewhat.

I honestly don't think there will be much decrease at all in reliablilty. And being that the motor was redone, I'd wager that it may be even more reliable. Especially, after people start adding oil coolers. ;)

Does anyone know if a warranty will cover the rings going out?

Te 06' has had the piston upgraded to a 3 ring setup exactly like the 04',05'. The only thing that worries me is cross country racing without the extra capacity and cooling that the oil cooler gave!

i have a very reliable source in the high performance industry that told me if u go high compression on an 06 rebuilds are every 15-20 hours...like a crf bike
