Any of you guys have custom exhausts on your trucks?

I recently built an exhaust for my 99' F150 4x4 5.4L. I used 2.5" Stainless Steel tubing from the manifold back. Its a true dual system, with two magnaflow high flow cats and a magnaflow dual in-dual out muffler. Sounds mean!

Had a flow 40 single in/dual out with pipes ran straight out he back, not cat. now i have a flow 40 single in/dual out, no cat with turndowns right after the muffler. went that way since i bent a tailpipe off-roading it. Sounds Mean, but loud inside the cab.

Blown Triton 5.4 exhaling through 2.5 inch bullet-style high flow cats, Flowmaster original 40 series 2 chamber muffler, and 21 inch long 4 inch stainless tips  Seriously considering switching to an IMCO single chamber muffler :D

If you can find a good deal on that, cool. But they usually run around 100 bucks for the muffler alone. The IMCO single chamber is the EXACT same muffler and only costs 30 bucks. That's why it has become very popular lately.

LOL, what can I say? I love trucks and quads. FTW and ATVriders are just what the doctor ordered for my sickness :p

You can't go wrong with those IMCO's. Some on Ebay are like 30 shipped to your door. Straights are cool and I bet yours sounds sick, but they are also less precise in terms of their tone. I think you will like the difference a lot... less rasp and more deep gurgley tone. Your tips should really accentuate that deepness as well

My flows are ok, a very deep tone that got even deeper when I added the high flow cats, but the tone is not as precise as I want it to be, it's kinda all over the place and resonates sometimes. I'm still debating the switch since I added the blower. It's already on the verge of obnoxiously loud just idling with the blower whine, so i'm not sure if I want a little bit more attention from the po po's :chinese: Who knows it's still up in the air..

btw, don't you love the shade of red our trucks are? You don't see too many of them out there that's for sure:cool: No matter how dirty it gets it always looks clean haha I don't get it but love it!

What kind of blower you got?

Anybody running a superchips tune?

NacsMXer
10-14-2005, 03:10 PM
I'm running a P-1SC ATI Procharger. It's a centrifugal unit so it makes a high pitched whistle sound much like a turbo. Took me 3 years to save the cash and I did all my homework in that period so i'm pretty satisfied with my decision :macho

Superchips makes an excellent chip for our trucks ;)

Im running the superchips "performance tune", gotta run 93', but I think it runs alot better. Ive also got a K+N intake. Next step is a hairdryer, been looking around for a good one to get.

NacsMXer

That's cool, my previous setup was an Airforce One stainless intake and a Diablo Delta chip. I had to run premium and still do now (even without the chip) and it ran pretty good.

By hairdryer, are you looking into a turbo setup or a centrifugal?
Or did I misinterpret completely and you're gonna run a ConAir setup? :blah: :p

Ya I was coming up with a plan to get my girlfriends hairdryer mounted on there. I was thinking centrifigul, Im not sure on the pros and cons of each though?

NacsMXer

I was originally intending to go with a custom turbo kit for F-150s from Trixters Racing but theres like a 2 year wait on that so I put that idea to rest.

Centrifugals behave a lot like turbos. They build power exponentially throughout the power curve and have crazy mid to top end. They are remotely mounted on a bracket on the front of the motor.

A roots or screw supercharger is the type that sits on top of the motor. It gives impressive low to mid power but less on the top end and sometimes overall than a centrifugal.

I like the Procharger in particular compared to other brands because its self-contained. Which means theres no risk of metal debris exchange from the supercharger to the motor if it decided to come apart or otherwise. It also has its own synthetic oil bath which can easily be changed every 6,000 miles.

Hey Nacs you have any pictures of your set up?

NacsMXer
10-17-2005, 10:55 AM
I've been having problems with my digi cam so I can't post a pic of my setup now sorry. Here's a pic though of the exact same kit I have but on the 4.6L. You can see how the intake tubes run down to the intercooler and back up to the throttle body.

Where did you get your kit from? Do you mind me asking how much you found it for?

NacsMXer
10-17-2005, 12:13 PM
I bought my kit from Trixters Racing. The owner has had personal issues since and is temporarily in a remote location so you can't really go through them for a while. They gave me a pretty good deal but usually these kits run around 4K and up.

How much boost are you running?

How much HP you think you picked up?

I'm running the stock 9 psi pulley since reliability was one of my biggest concerns. Go any higher than that and you risk blowing something.

My latest dyno run proved 357 RWHP and 403 lb-ft of torque with a custom tune. I'm guessing its around 400HP/435 lb-ft at the flywheel.

A stock 5.4 puts out at best around 200 RWHP and 300 lb-ft and as you know 260HP/350 lb-ft at the flywheel.

Throw a 12 psi pulley on there and you'll see some crazy gains but will be very close to the limit of what the stock internals can handle.

You can see there's quite a difference after a little forced induction via the Procharger!
