I'm wanting to make my 400ex faster but not any less reliable. I want to do mainly only drop in mods and bolt ons, with a price budget. I don't really want to bore the engine out. But I want more power with no sacrifice on reliability. I'm getting a sparks pipe soon and wondering what else would make my bike faster. like a stage 1 cam and chain, JE piston, rejet. I already have a K@N filter. also a good clutch

the motor won't be less reliable if you do bore it out but that is your decision you could do a high compression stock bore and a stg 1 or 2 hot cam along with a pipe filter and rejet you will see a great improvement over stock

^^^ i definately agree, for the most reliable, but more powerful motor, high comp piston and cam is the way to go, but if you want more power after that there are quite a few ways to go. there are a lot of guys that are running reliable 416's, 440's, etc. but in doing this you have to expect more problems, and more frequent rebuilds.

I would want to do a higher comp piston but I dont' want to have to run race gas. I'd like cheap 93 gas. What's the highest comp. I can go with pump gas.

on a 400ex around 11:1 you should be ok depends on elevation and temperature.

i would definately listen to c&d, 11:1 is safe for pump gas, i have even run 87 in my warrior with 11:1 compression, but with my raptor it spark knocks on 93 with an 12:1 comp piston
