well i was ridin the other day and i went to the truck, shut it off for bout 5 minutes, got on, started rite up and rite after it started it would bog down over half throttle. it did this for about a minute and then quit and wouldnt restart. so i let it sit for about an hour, it started and ran fine for 15 minutes and then started bogging and shut off. got home and checked everything w/ a volt meter. the ignition module is getting volts and passing them on to the ignition coil but there is no spark after it gets warmed up. it has to be the coil right? could i use the 400ex coil to see if it will stay running? in other words, are they the same?

ohm it out, follow what it is supposed to measure in ohms and you will have your answer! i would replace the plug anyways though, but that is almost always one of my first steps in those problems:p

Possibly fly wheel thats where your getting the electricty for the spark after its starts running

here is a common problem with electical do-dads in any shape form or fashion. when they start going bad when they get hot or warm the ohm (resitance goes up) lamens terms ( the electicity can not pass threw it). what you need to do is get the quad up to operating temp ( ride somewhere close to your house or shop tell it goes dead, then check all your componets that causes the spark plug to spark. these items are stator, cdi box,and ign coil. your problem will be one of these items. it is a slim chance it is the spark plug wire.

i left out your other question. i have no idea if the 400ex would be the same but i would not be suprised if they were. i have a good friend that is a parts manger at a honda shop. ill wil check with him he might know.

here is your answer. the ign coils are the same. if the ign coil is the problem buy one for the 400ex, it is cheaper than the ign coil for the 300ex. the reason for this is: the 300ex coil is made in japan and the 400ex coil is made here in the states.

well the coil was the problem, i already ordered a coil off ebay for $35, hopefully thats cheaper than the 400ex coil:ermm:

is your key on and your ignition switch in the run position
