Today I took my 450r out for a ride after about 8 weeks of sitting on my tush cause of a broken ankle. I'm wide open 3rd or 4th gear and CRUNCH. the bolt the holds the front sprocket on fell out. the front sprocket than decided it would be nice to slide off the shaft mash off my case saver into my gearshift shaft and bend the shaft down into the frame. Getting stuck there between the shaft and the swingarm locking my tires up

So my question is ........ has anyone had to replace the shifter shaft yet in a 05 405r? Was looking in the service manual and it look fairly easy. am I missing a step or is it that easy?

Gonna have to split the cases for that one. Unless you decided to try and bend it back?

No need to split the cases...ive broke 3 already....

Just pull the right side case off, then the shaft slides right out, its a very easy job and like a $30 fix....

Yes, on the 400ex the cases need to be split. I did mine a month or so ago, not too difficult though;)

Cut the shaft off as close to the seal as you can get, then round the edges to remove burrs. Knock it out gently, after you take the right side apart. It is easy.

WATCH FOR THE LITTLE PLASTIC COLLAR..I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, WITHOUT IT ON THE SHIFT SHAFT EAR, THE BIKE WILL NOT SHIFT AND YOU WILL HAVE TO DO IT OVER...LOOKS LIKE A LITTLE SPACER WITH A FLANGE AROUND IT....Sorry for the caps, but it will cost you big if you loose it.:D
