are the predator's a good all around race quad with a few modifications to them

It's a great race quad as long as you don't mind the extra weight or the lack of support from the aftermarket. I race harescrambles and love my 05 TLD predator. Stock motor, stock suspension and I have as much fun as anyone. For me the Predator fits me well. I am a big guy so size and weight don't bother me. I am the slow one not my quad. Just my opinion. ya but are they good for MX racing

not really they r kinda heavy and dont have the hard mid-range hit like the yfz or 450r

not really they r kinda heavy and dont have the hard mid-range hit like the yfz or 450r Actually, the mid range is comparable on a Predator , but I can personally say I dont reccomend one for MX,its ALOT of work and harder to manuvuer.We have one and ran for two race season in Local Pro and WORCS. Its a kick on the Desert /endurance racing, but FT and MX its tough, its not as nimble as a 450,also has alot of wheelspin ,I hear some of that was corrected but never ran the 05/06 model .It has AWESOME power, but finding at times its wasted power if you can get the right traction .ITs a very fun quad though :)

The 400ex is antiquated at best for mx, get a YFZ or 450R. I'd recommend a YFZ, you have to do less to them to have a good mx machine. My .02, good luck with whatever you get.
