Well.. it seems it's time for me to clean my air filter. I have a 2005 400ex. I've never done this before so I'd like to get a few pointers as to how to go about it please. A friend of mine has suggested I clean the foam part with dish soap. I was wondering if anyone else does this?? or if you have any other suggestions.

Any response would be appreciated. Thanks

do you have the stock or aftermarket filter. stock just clean with water the best you can. clean inside out so you're not lodging anything into it. then put some air filter oil on it so it grabs the dirt and doesn't go into your engine. it varies with what filter you have also.

Forgot to specify that the quad is completely stock for now.

Soap and water are fine, rinse from the inside out like 400exMO said. Squeeze out excess moisture but don't wring it. Let it dry completely before reoiling with oil made for a foam filter.

A trick for reoiling...... put the filter in a ziplock bag and massage the oil it to it.

I always use Castrol Super Clean from Walmart to clean out the filter. Then i let it airdry and then re-oil it with PJ1 spray oil

pour a bit of gas into a pan and then push your filter into it. wahs it in that by compressing it a lot and it will look like new after.
