Ok I searched and read a lot about this but I still am not convinced. I've seen a lot of people say it wont work, and a lot of people saying it will work. So has anybody successfully put a 400ex axle into a 450R? Please provide some pictures if you have. Thanks.

it is 1/8 inch off. You will either throw your chain alot or wear a groove in your sprocket. OR depending on the axle, the sprocket hub will rub the carrier.

My friend has a 400ex durablue in his and it has 1/8 groove worn into his sprocket, not a good idea if you ask me..

I tried a 400ex rpm and it will rub your carrier...

What if a 400ex carrier is used? Still same results? Or will the 400ex carrier not even fit into the swingarm correctly?

the 450r has two bearings o nthe chain side so i dont think it would work

like i posted before, a stock 400 axle WILL fit into a 450 with no troubles. we did mine over a year ago and have rode a full season of hare scrambles on it it, still looks like new. no carrier grooves or any of that. the only way to convince yourself is to just do it.

I used a 400ex carrier and a 400ex RPM axle in my 450r swingarm and it works fine.

I've already got a durablue x-33 w/ custom hubs that my buddy just spent over 20 hrs making, so I really dont want to just sell it off after he went through all of the trouble:ermm: The thing is I will have to buy an EX carrier then, but I dont want to spend any more money until I know for certain that this will work and work correctly.

So if I use a 400ex carrier in my 450R swingarm, the axle will fit? Also how much wider is the stock 450R axle than the stock 400ex axle? Cause if its already wider than my +6 axle will only end up being about +4 then right?

It will work. You have to yse the factory sprocket off the stock axle. put it on the 400ex axle & it will bolt on. There is a very small bit of play, but it works fine. I have done it to mine & worked for about 6 months now!!

Tried this, it's really stupid, just buy a used aftermarket 450r axle

I've already got a $400 400ex axle. I cant afford to just buy any more stuff.

Does anyone know if it would work to machine off 1/8 inch off of the 450R carrier to make the 400ex axle work?

NO, you obviously didn't read my first couple posts. My budd just put over 20 hours into making a custom set of hubs for this axle, and he wont be too happy to see me sell this right now. Im trying to exhaust all options first. If it simply wont work I will sell it, but there has got to be a way to make it work.

No problem, cause I dont read all posts either. What I want to know though is if its possible to maybe machine a little off of the 450R carrier and have the 400ex axle work then?!?!?

Look here a 400ex axle will work in a 450r but you have to get ahold of RPM they make a sprocket hub just for this application but I am not for sure if it will work with Durablue axles but do know it will for Lonestar so good luck on your search.

sell the 450r carrier... buy a 400 one. arent the splines the same... so if you sold your axle... then you could buy a 450r one, not have the problems, have the custom hubs.. then sell yours?

im not sure how milling off the carrier would go, it might not seal right, but take it apart and check for yourself i guess. then if it looks possible, take it to a local machine shop. if you dont know where one is ask your local dealer or and auto shop, they always have stuff to send out.

OK well the problem there is that the x-33 axle has no splines. It is pin driven. I could probably buy another x-33 axle, but we already put all the time into making this one work. We could mill the carrier ourselves as we have access to the right machines. I think I might buy a stock 450R carrier just to try it out.

STFU Newb

If you read the post the first time you would see that we want to use this axle because of all the time we put in making the hubs. I dont have $400 laying around to buy an axle, cause my mommy and daddy didn' buy my four-wheeler. I do however have an x-33 axle for a 400ex laying in the garage and just thought it might work. So if you have nothing useful to add to this thread than dont reply anymore. Thanks;)

damn guys I had a 400ex before with lots of stuff and I built a 450r last winter but I was at schoole and you know money is not growing in trees there so I tried the 400ex axle and carrier and its perfectly aligned.

heres a rear shot.
