What are most people buying for thickness of the skidplates? .125 or .190? Is factory direct your best place for price on these? Would you recommend another brand over the PRM? Thanks for your help.

depends on the purpose but I wouldn't go less than .250 for an aluminum skidplate.

.250 for a swing arm skid. I think he's asking about belly and/or a-arm skids;)

The PRM are Stainless, and I was considering getting all 3 pieces because i believe i will be doing more trail riding then anything else. Any suggestions for other brands? Thanks for the responces.

Pro armor is more money, for about the same quality. You cant go wrong with PRM, and buying direct off their website will result in the fastest shipping. But not the best prices. If your not in a hurry you'll get a better price from C&D, but the parts will go from Or to NE to your place.
I bought from PRM because I couldnt see shipping the plate and bumper all the way out to Nebraska then right back to Washington state, to save $20.
As for thickness, stick with .250 for the swinger, and .125 should be fine for the belly skid and arms. Its just there as a glide plate, not to be intentionally bashing it against every rock in the woods.
My $.02;)

I got the .250 PRM swingarm skid and will be getting the rest of the set. It really has a nice design, good price, and is very strong.

it looks like the bolt heads stick out on the prm swinger... is this true? i have a dg fat series (1/4 or .250 thick i think) and i will need to eventually buy another swingarm skid plate for another 400ex... so im trying to find one that is stronger, the welds dont crack as easy, and the end of the skid metal near the chain and disk has a lip that curves up for a little better protection... this is the skid i have now- i like the lip on the end that curves up and gives you better protection

PRM have great products, the swing arm skid is the best. My first was a DG, but it hung dowm soooooo far it robbed all ground clearence.

PRM skids are great, and on the 400ex the swingarm skid gives more ground clearance than any other skid I have seen. Mine has held up great no cracks and or bending so far. And the bolts on the bottom end of the skip have a recess that the bolt head fits up into so its not wideopen for damage. Pra armors are good to but are a little on the big/bulky side. All the other brands fold up like aluminum foil if you do any serious riding

I've been running a PRM for about 2.5 years now and it's held up pretty well. I've raced about 14 GNCC's with it and regular riding and it's still hanging in there. I have had to take it off and beat it straight a few times but it has lasted WAAAAAAY longer than any other skid I've ran.
