the other day me and my brother and some friends went riding through some tight trails. he has a bran new 05 yfz limited edition with myabe 10 hours on it. after about an hour of tight trial riding he stops and tells me to look at this. his header was as red as my 300ex plastics. i know this is a high performance race machine and isnt really meant for the trails, but should it do that. you can also hear a little ticking inside the motor. i was thinking maybe his valves need adjustment and thats what might be making it run hot. i was right behind him and everytime he hit a puddle there was a smoke show. any ideas whats wrong?

Take it back to the dealer.

It's eaither jetted to lean, or the exhaust gasket at the head is leaking.

don't worry about it..... the hondas do it too

the yfz header is thin titanium so it may be more noticable.

buncha tards, don't take it back to the dealer cause they'll just charge you out the butt and act like they did something to it but in reality they won't touch it cause there's nothing wrong with it and it's perfectly normal specially in the woods just ride it and enjoy it

I've seen that happen to an older utility quad. It was because the spark plug wasn't tight which was causing it to run extra lean.

He said it's a Brand New 05. Therefore it is under warranty and won't cost a thing. :P

If it's not under warranty.. I wouldn't let a dealership touch my quad with a 10ft pole.. lol.

I was assuming it was still under warranty.

My 300ex does it when it gets below 40 degrees. means a lean condition.

yeah its got a 6 month warranty on it. hopefully the dealer will cover it, because the place where he bought it the people there are a-holes.

my friends quad does that its no big deal
buy a pipe and rejet or just buy a new header
it is because the header is so thin thinner than most

its not a problem, if you look at most peoples with an pipe, they will do it as well.

does it do it at idle, from 1/8-3/4 throttle or full throttle?

he brought it back so they could fix it. it was cold, he started it, took it up the driveway and back and it was already glowing. he was even ripping eather.

It's normal. I work at a yamaha shop and I see it all the time. Yamaha high performance dirt bikes do it too. Don't bother taking to your dealer either they won't be able to fix it because it can't be fixed.

yall dont know jack, your friend is running engine oil that is too light. tell him to drain the oil and put in some rotela 85w140. it will run like a champ. it would not hurt to run vp c12 race gas in it also, this fuel will keep the engine from running lean, because it is oxygenated, there for the engine will breath better. if you are like me you get hungy out on the trails. wrap a potato in foil and strap it to the rad. in front of the head pipe. ride for 30min at half trottle and presto!!! baked potato. stay tuned for more on the trail recipes and riding tips from exracer131.

but he didnt even run the thing for 5 minutes and it was already red. and i dont think he has changed the oil yet cause it has nothing for hours on it. i think the main reason he brought it back was because of the ticking. it was very loud and a few people said he shoudl get it checked out.
