I don’t care what anyone says. A Rancher is not built to turn 27” anything. I talked to a guy once that said he had 29.5” Outlaws on his Rancher and it turned them fine. When looking at his pictures you couldn’t help but notice he never rode in the mud, maybe a ditch with about 12” of water in it was about it.

Anyhow, he kept claiming the bike would turn them fine. First time he got it off in some “real” mud he blew the motor.

Ranchers are not meant for 27” tires. Heck, my cousins bogs down with 26” MudLites on it where we ride.

on my '04 350 Bruin i had 26'' mudlite XL's all around, it turned them fine, and it was even better in "real" mud.

I see pics of the bikes stuck, but none of them actually slinging the mud around. Don’t see any videos to prove it either. I can take a 250 Timberwolf, slap some 29.5” laws on it and get it stuck…still doesn’t mean it will spin the tires in deep stuff.

I have seen Ranchers bogging down with 26” tires on several occasions.

Also if you think you are doing good by getting the Rincon for mudding think again. Those things have absolutely no low range at all. I have seen them bog down with stock tires on them. My buddy had went and bought one, got it home, pulled it off the trailer, hooked a trailer too it, and the thing bogged down…wouldn’t budge the trailer. He loaded it up and brought it back to the dealership and traded on another bike.

Just in case you guys think I have no idea what I am talking about I have not had a 350 Rancher; although I had more than one 300 Honda.

My second to last one was bored over to a 373 with high compression piston, 459 cam, and just about ever other performance mod you could slap on the thing. It was putting up just as much or more power to the ground as a 450 Honda and it would bog down big time with 28” skinny Outlaws on it.

The last Honda 300 I had was bored over to a 355 with high compression piston, 102 web cam, and all the other goodies. It would bog with the 28’s and even bogged it several times with 26” vampires, and it was much stronger than a Rancher.

Now when I say the bikes bogged down this is what I mean…If I saw a hole that looked bad and I dropped it down in first and stayed in the throttle pretty hard it would continue to turn the tires okay…nothing special. The minute I let off the throttle it was done for because I could not start them spinning again. If you want to ride W.O.T. through the thick stuff then you might be okay most of the time, but don’t let off the throttle or you are toast.

Now this is what I call “real” mud…
http://www.atvmudmania.com/events/mud%20mania%202005-b/images/grizzntwolf0002.JPG

The bike on the left is my grizzly…the bike on the right is my cousin’s T-wolf which is about the same height with the oversized tires and lift as a Rancher…

As you can see my floarboards are about as high as a Rancher's racks...a rancher would be almost completely under the mud in some "real" stuff. :blah:

we are looking at the new outy 800 and the 650

Like I said the Rancher will spin the tires all day long in WATER with some 27’s or 28’s, but it’s not made to push those tires in pure slop.

I have seen a Rancher bogging down too many times. We just went out this past weekend as a matter of fact to do the 450 Rhino review and brought along a 350 Rancher with an HL lift kit and 26” mud lites. It did great in the sand and in the water, but when we hit the real slop it started bogging…and that was just with some mud lites…slap a real tire on there and it won’t go anywhere.

You are right about one thing though…what does it matter what I think, or should I say KNOW. If you are happy with your machine and it does what you want it to do then that’s all that matters. I just don’t think people should give other people wrong impressions about what a machine can do. I ride in some bad stuff so I give the “worst case scenario” aspect of it all, and in that scenario the Rancher bogs down and gets pulled out in neutral.

Nothing wrong with not riding mud. I'll be honest...sometimes I hop on the rhino and just ride around for the heck of riding.

If I had a Rancher and wanted a good tire for just riding around (all terrain) I would probably go with something like the mudlite. They are a great tire on the trail, pretty light, and do fair at everything...just not great at anything.

If you get some rims definately get some 12". There are still some companies that make 11" rims and smaller, but with the 12" rims your selection is much larger. I would also suggest going with aluminum rims because they are much lighter and will give back some power.

With the mudlites I would suggest probably a 26" size on the Rancher. It's a good all around size, and the Rancher can handle them even in the worst goop with minimal bogging.

thanks for the info, what do you think about 12 with 25's on them.and what would you think would be good

Like I said I think the mudlite would be a good choice for an all around tire if you don't hit much mud, but want something that does well on the trails.

Mud Monster Grizz,
I agree with you on what you said about a Rancher doesn't need anything over a 26" tire unless its like a real light tire which would be for trails.

BUT, before I bought this Sportsman 500 HO I had a 03 Honda Rancher 350 4x4 with 26" Outlaws, 12" ITP Delta Wheels, and a K&N Air Filter. I will say I did go through a lot of mud with no problems, but there was one or two that was like peanut butter which I ended up having to get pulled out of. Most of the time by atleast 2 atvs. I was able to sling mud with those tires just I most of the time ended up getting high centered. I sold the Rancher 4x4 for something with more power, ground clearance, and a locker. Which is why I have the 500 HO. I have now. All in all unless you have lots of modifications don't go over a 26" tire because you won't be happy, especially if you play in the mud like I do. JMO

Go to http://www.badforeman500.20m.com and click on the photo page to see my old pictures of my Rancher 4x4. Yes, that is an old website I haven't updated in a while.

Here is me in one of the mud holes everyone gets stuck in.

OMG u just made me want one soooooooooo bad
what mod's dose it have that thing is a beast
what did he pay for it cuz around ehre they r going for 9 just for the bike

i was going to take the rancher for a spin with the stock tires one cuz i sold my 27s but when i was backing it out of the trailer it looks like my lil sis took it riding and got wire raped around the boot and it broke it wich suck
do any one know how much it would cost to fix it ?

MudMonsterGrizz
03-18-2006, 08:48 PM
In that video the only things he had done to it was a small lift, tires, and snorks...besides that the bike is bone stock.

I have never asked him what he paid for it, but I do know that thing has sick power.

rancher350rider
03-18-2006, 09:19 PM
are those 29s stock on it ?
how dose it do in mud cuz ppl say the popo's are better
also dose any 1 know how good the 650s are

MudMonsterGrizz
03-20-2006, 06:07 AM
Those are 29.5’s on it bone stock. From what I have seen it turns them great; although I have not seen it in real serious mud yet. It is a beast though.

25 inch mudlites on mine tho i got a hole in both right tires after a ride nail or somthing so gota plug them. But my rancher pulled them great and was killer in mud were old stock tires would get stuck big time.

dont get the rincon it is awful no power whatsoever and with only 3 forward gears and no low range.....if i was gonna get a new honda utility it would be the rubicon they have good power with low range.......i have 27 in 589's on mine and it is all stock and it turns em in the slop

rancher350rider
03-24-2006, 05:50 PM
im geting a outty 800 or a rhino 660 we cant make our mind up lol

400exc
03-25-2006, 06:11 AM
get the outy 800, you wont be regretting it once you ride it! great power everywhere

and motochamp 250, the rincon has alot of power, it has better suspension than the rubicon. The new rubicons arent the greatest, but they are pretty nice and powerful quads. Im not trying to start up a post-fight here, but im just saying dont talk bad about the rincon, they do pretty good in competition in stock vs. stock competition
