View Full Version : Timing key how to tell if theres one in there?

I bought a used 400ex for my wife with the normal bolt-ons. I have a timing key laying around and before I go rippin into this I was wondering if there is any way to tell if one is already installed. I would hate to go tear into it to find one already in ther. Thanks guys.

Take the rocker cover off, Take out the 2 plugs on the stator case, and put it at TDC in the small hole. If your parelel marks on the cam gear dont line up on the edge of the head correctly its probly has a degree key in it already.
