the rebel is a nice camera, the the only differenct with it and the old cannon 10d is it has a plastic body and not magnesium. It does take very nice pics. I have a Nikon D70s and love it. If you do want to get into photography make sure you get a dslr you will want to be changing lenses depending on what your shooting. The point and shoots with the built in zooms are nice if you just want to take pictures, but if you really want to get inti photography you will want a SLR and all of the manual options on the camera.

the rebel, and the nikon digital d50 are both great starting cameras if your an aspiring photographer. i love my D100, but there are things that the 20D canon does better, especially when using a flash unit.

take a course in photography, even if you never intend to make money with teh camera, you will get a lifetime of self reward from your pictures!

Definetly take a class in photography! A buddy of mine is, and he said he has learned a ton of info he never knew before. I've seen some of his pictures he has taken, and wow...I will try to post some when he develops his next roll. He is using an older Nikon camera I believe, it's old, manual film advance, etc. His dad uses a Nikon D???, and it is an amazing digital camera. It has an awesome motor wind feature, for capturing those action shots. I use an Olympus Stylus 410. It's a great camera for me, large, clear pictures and many modes for any shooting scene. It's decently priced, $250-300, although I got mine as a gift. :D
