What does the ex in 400ex stand for?

Well, heres something i noticed, all of the kick start trikes and quads have a X on hte end, and all of the electric start quads have a EX on the end. makes sense?

What about the CRF450R? Off the top of my head, that's the only one that doesn't follow this naming scheme. Is it because that is Honda's kick ***** motor?

ex is jsut like the new quads they can't go on forever making x's so the made the new series ex jsut liek the old 250x and the new 250ex its jsut the new hondas thats all

Why do they take engines off of dirtbikes and put them on quads? They should be taking engines off of quads and putting them in dirtbikes!

wait if the "X" stands for kickstart. like 250x..then why does the ex have an x in it. there isn't a kicker on it. i think the E does stand for electric though. the X, maybe it does mean X-TREME modle. for sport model.....

This is their reply:

We had to find our top secret Dirt Wheels decoder ring for this one. The X stands for cross, as in mototcross or cross-country. The E stands for earth. If you don't like earth-crossing then EX can also stand for extra exciting.
And we all know how accurate the magazines are.:eek:

that is what ui have always thought . that the "E" stands fot the electric start and the "X" stands for like cross. and all the ones with the "R" at the end stands for race but i could be wrong. what about on dirt bikes when the say YZ,RM,CR and KX? is that just a way to ID them by the make or does it also stamd for someting? maybe...

that might not be true about what juggalo said. because they had a atc 200s wich was a 200 4 stroke with no rear suspension, then they had the 200x and 350x wich both had rear suspension and were 4strokes. so i dunno, but juggalo's is the only one that makes sense to me, i'm going to stick with it personaly =P

Maybe its because it sounds cooler with a letter at the end, EX or X or R are "cool" sounding letters, like what would you think of a 400MV or 300AH or 250JK, they just dont sound as cool. Of course now that I realize it all those letter I named off sort of represent something, like MV=Motor Vehichle, AH= AHHH!!!! and JK=Just Kidding. So they would be the 400MotorVehicle the 300AHHHH!!! and the 250Just Kidding models. Ok I am rambling on now, I will stop, but you get my point.

i think the reason that those dont sound cool is because we arent used to hearing them if we would have grown up with the 400MV the 300AH and the 250JK we would say the samething about the EX R and X. just a thought?

The R can't stand for racer because there is the XR50R and XR70R and so on, and they aren't exactly racers, I mean I guess you could race them, I mean, someone has to get last. :D
