ok i think i might have the wrong swing arm.. can you tell a difference between a 250r swing arm and 400ex swing arm??

i dont know if this helps but i meassured where the swing arm bolt goes through and bolts to the motor and frame...the left side is 2 3/8 and the right is 3 3/8....cause im tryin to get it to bolt up to my yz/ex conversion with the walsh bushings and it wont fit...do i have the wrong swing arm or does everybody that has a yz/ex conversion have to cut the bushings down for the swing arm to fit??any info would be great....

thanks

Is it a stock swingarm? If it is stock, and it is aluminum, it is a 400ex swingar, and if it's steel then its off of an 86/87 250r.

Well the length of the 86/87 250r swing arm, from the center of the pivot bolt berrings to the center of the hole for the carrier is 19.25 inches. I'm not shure what the length of the 400ex swingarm is, but mabey someone else can say what that is.

i dont think ive ever seen a 250R swinger with the gap. where it hooks up to the frame. every swinger i have seen has been solid there. but all my experience is with 88-89 R's. i know the 86-87 was a different width at the frame (least im pretty sure). but i always thought it was solid too. other than that it looks alot like a 250R swingarm.

The 86/87 250r swingarms did have that space. The 88/89 were solid. And the 86/87, and 88/89 swingarms are interchangeable with the different year frames.

I am 99% sure thats a 400ex swingarm..No you do not have to do any cutting on the any bushings or anything to get the conversion to work..you actually have to add a spacer piece between the motor and the bearing sleeve to make the swingarm work..Let me know if you have any questions..here is a pic of what I am talking about if you need it..If you look to the right of the motor you will see the spacer needed that sits flush against the motor and the swingarm bearing sleeve..

how big of a gap was it between your motor and swing arm??? cause i need to know how much i need to cut off of my new motor bushings i got from walsh racing for them to work...

You shouldnt have to cut any of the sleeve off at all. It should be too short already and thats why the spacer is needed. If its the actual bushing/sleeve that slides through the back of the motor it should be the exact same length as the width of motor where the bushing/sleeve slides through..I hope I am understanding which bushing you are talking about..Let me know if you have any more questions.

im not talking about the sleeve that goes in the swing arm...im talking about the motor bushings that you have to have so that you can use the samw swing arm bolt that goes sleeve in the swing arm a 400ex motor bushing...i have 2 pair of motor bushing from walsh that are to long cause of the way the yz motor is,,so one of the bushings (spacer or whatever they are called) have to cut down so that the swing arm will have a tight fit on both sides of the motor..i just wondering if you cut yours down and how much cause i meassured it but i wanted to see if your messurement was the same as mine..heres a pic of the what im talking about...

I didnt cut mine down at all..I actually had a sleeve made that slid into the stock motor bushing and made a tight fit for 400ex swingarm bolt to slide in with no play in it..I didnt buy anything aftermarket for that portion of the conversion. I just used the stock motor bushing and a sleeve that slid into that..what measurements do you need..?

i need to know how much to cut off of the bushings so that it will fit tight when i put the swing arm on...from where it touches the motor to where it would fit tight and touch the swing arm...i would really apperciate it if you could tell me how long yours is...

Well the only thing I can really tell you is the spacer I used between the motor and the swingarm bearing sleeve measured at .240 Let me know if this is the measurements you need.

The measurement is .240 of an inch..That is the length of the spacer I needed between the motor and the swingarm bearing sleeve..
