hi guys i got a smart a** friend thats saying rockford fosgate is better then jl audio and i wanted to know what you guys thought i think that jl kicks rockford fosgates a** just tell me what you guys think

JL is for sure better than rockford.if the rockford's are newer type speakers then they suck.the older model rockfords hit alot better.JL and logic are the two best subs on the market i think.

I used to be sponsored by Fosgate. They were great back in thier day but since they went mainstream and started to be sold at Bestbuy and Crutchfield thier quality dropped like a dress after the prom.
I run a JL 12 w3 in a stealth box in my truck with an old Punch 100 amp and it sounds awesome now.

i think fosgate makes a kick ***** amp. i dont know about ther subs. i know the discussion is between jl and fosgate but my favorite sub is either dayton audios MKIII or kicker comp vr. when it comes to subs it all depends on what you want out of them

Rockford is a JOKE compared to JL Audio and Diamond. 1 12 w7 is insane. Id go with JL or Diamond.

Its hard to go by company....i've head s*** rockfords and jl's that sound like s***....it all about weather its they're comp. and top of the line or the bottom of the line...maybe things are different in canada...but i know everyone thinks Alpine is Garbage, but at a soudn off there was a guy with all top end alpine and i have never heard clarity like that in my life.
i would say JL's are better IMO, but i think if you found top end rockford it would still compete.

I like how everyone goes off what they hear about a company, or what they're "BUDDY" has..
Alpine is by NO means garbage, they pretty much have the most advanced head units out there compared to your average retail stereos..
There is nothin wrong with RF equipment, very company has it's good **** and it's junk.. I have had many JL and rockford subs, with the right setup you'll be satisfied with either brand... what RF subs are we comparing these W7s to?? P1's P2's? cuz I would say that the RF T2 is pretty f'in bad*ss...
The other thing that kills me is when people say that now that Best Buy carries RF, it's junk.. Best Buy picked up Rockford in 1998.. that was 7 years ago, half the people reading this thread were still on big wheels seven years ago..
I have been a MECP certified installer for 6 years now. I have been there done that with tons of equipment...
and while we're on the topic of bad*ss subs, the 22" MTX jackhammer, there is no competition

I have a Rockford punch stage 2 that is a 12" paper weight or fridge magnet... i thought it was a good sub for the price, until it randomly died.

i got 2 12" punch he's. in your poll what punch series were you referring to? p1's p2's what? also its not just the sub its also the amp you got wired to it and dont forget the box. enclosures make a big difference.

The rockford punch subs aren't that great. The rockford power subs are pretty sick though.:eek2:

i know that rockford makes very good amps.iv'e used several of them,but i still don't like their subs.Orion is one of the very best also.they would compete with JL anyday.

LOL Where did you get your info? did you just hear one rf sub compaired to a jl sub?
The rockford POWER DVC subs will damn near own or hold there own against many many many manufactures.. Ive owned many subs, including the rockford and jl subs.. if you can find the old power dvc's thats the sub to go with.. heres a great combo.. 2 12 inch power dvc's with 2 memphis 1000d amps bridged together, gives a whole new meaning to the term "bumpbump."

Yes thats true. A jl w7 will own a rockford fosgate stage one punch. If he owns a stage three punch with a nice amp that will bump similar to a w7.

well rockford sucks these days and JL are way overpriced...i do alot of installs and hang out at some shops and the best thing I've heard lately are the Eclipse titaniums....one 15 could probably out pound 2 15" JL's...but i mean i know alot of companies that would blow em away..if you want good stuff get the underground stuff..like brahma, xxx, etc..

JL W7's are awesome. I would prefer it over a Rockford sub.
But the Phoenix Gold Ti12d will crush a JL W7.

The MTX cost less, is built better, has a larger motor structure, and handles more power....

some underground companied do make some pretty good stuff but generelly it just ends up WAAYY overpriced, hence Kove audio, good **** but it should be at $1300 a sub....
Pretty much, who gives a sh*t how big and bad equipment is!!! most people are not using it to potential anyway. like the W7 that hit 137 or whatever.. a respectable lever would be 140, anything below that is not worth bragging about...Even if a sub could handle a million watts, it wouldn't matter cuz it just end up in a prefab box and a half*ss amp, and still would suck

Allow me to clarify a little bit here...I am not some kid that knows a guy that knows a guy that dated this guy.....I retail this stuff out of my shop.
Blackpred works with me. Sure, I speak from my own personal experience but, I do this day in and day out......
Combined, Blackpred and I have probably had more stereo combinations then the people in this post.....exaggeration? Little bit....but, I do have a point. That is we know what we are talking about. I am not say this chit out of opinion.......
Some of us do have MECP certifications to back that up.....

jl subs rule, jl amps are overpriced, rf subs suck (from what ive owned and heard), and rf amps are great for the price. i have 2 10" jl w3's with a rf punch 500. thinking of doing a hifonics/resonant engineering setup next.

Got A JL stealth box with the 12W3 in my Silverado, best sounding woofer/ box combo I have ever heard! Bar None!
It is hooked up to a PPI A-300.2, Audio Control 4XS and an Alpine head unit.
Also have a set of Focal Utopia's in the doors.
Best products=best sound!

The W7 is one of the best sounding high excursion subs in a sealed box so laugh all you want.

your key component is not your subs that sound good, its your amp with a >500 dampening factor, you could put a jensen sub on there and it would sound good.
I also hope you have an amp on those focals, if not consider them fried
also Best Product=best sound, not totally true... installation is more important than anything.. a set of decent component with a proper soundstage and imaging is gonna sound way better than some top end ones just slapped in the door....
same with subs, a decent subs and a "GOOD" enclosure that is tuned to the resonant frequency of the vehicle is gonna sound WAAAYYYY better than some expensive *ss subs in a prefab box..
Also if you knew anything about car audio, you guys wouldn't just be sayin , Oh the w7 is the best, blah blah blah.. You would actually research the Theile Small Parameters of the subs and pick the one that best suits you vehicle/needs/enclosure!!!

No, they are for tighter more musical bass. A well tuned ported box can sound good but not quite as good as a sealed. My most recent set up had 2 Phoenix X-Max subs in a ported box powered by a Phoenix Gold Ti600.2

Then why are you running a sealed box now? a ported box can be tuned to sound however you want if you know what the H*ll your doin... the only way a sealed is more suitable is if the VAS of the sub is greater than 2.4... in which case the sub sucks anyway.....Or, you just plain don't have the room for a ported box......

I don't have any subs at the moment so I don't know if I'll go with a ported box or not. It does take up more space.. I'm not even sure of what front stage to go with yet. I really like Phoenix Gold stuff but I'll let my ears make my choice. PG ti amps for sure..

Yea, It sounds really clean. Best Sounding system I have ever had. The Focal's are extremely clear and the 6.5" driver hits hard. I Highly recommend the JL stealthbox as well, really tight, not a boomy hollow base sound. I listen to everything from Country, Techno, Drum N Bass, Death Metal to Rap, All of it sounds great.
When you have a system that sounds this good, you look for excuses to go out and drive around!
I have had the PPI amps forever (since like 1997, LOL!), never had an issue with them, I won't use anything other than an Alpine headunit, they are the best available, I don't care what anyone says. I have everything hooked up with Monster Cable and Streetwires power distribution products.
If I ever had to replace my PPI amps, I would either find some used ones off of ebay, or install the JL slash series amps.
