Are you putting in a higher compression piston?

Since you already have exhaust and I'm guessing a filter, a higher compression piston and a cam will make a huge difference. My advice would be to have the cylinder bored at least .040 over so you have a fresh surface to work with. You'll need to buy the piston before you take it to get bored so the machinist knows exactly how much to bore and hone it. I would definitely buy a cam, too, if you're going through the trouble of putting a piston in. I have an 11:1 416cc (87mm piston) and a stage 1 HotCam, and my quad runs great. I put a stage 2 (the old stage 2, now stage 3) in the 406 I built for my buddy and he said it screams, and that it still has awesome low end. If you rev your quad a lot, you'll probably prefer the stage 2 (now 3, I think), but the stage 1 makes good power everywhere, too. I guess it just depends on your riding style. Do the cam, though, you'll kick yourself later if you don't. :D

This is what I put in it Namura piston (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4574052428&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT)
I used to raced MX in the 125cc class and some enduros, and still have a YZ426 so yes I like to ride pretty hard, I basicly bought the quad for my girl but since I'm the only one in my group that has a bike I ride the quad often too.
So with the stock bore and 11:1 comp will a stage one or two be better.
I appreciated the help guys

i have heard the banshee guys running those pistons will crack at the piston pin and they are a low rpm app. for snow mobiles. i dont know if they are cast or forged or what the weight is. info is schetcy at best. i wanted to put one in my 400 but there web sight is lame. the piston are made in korea and the web sight states that they are made of the finest material but they have a bad rep in europe . acouple of 2 stroke road racers used them and noticed pin boss cracks during reringing but then they also call wisco a seizco. so i have a bone stock 400ex thx:eek2:

The 11:1 stock bore piston will be fine with the stage 2 will be fine. BUT it would not hurt at all, if not be better to bump it up to a 416. Also I would give C&D racing a call, and look into the Ross or JE pistons. I have ran both, and they are both of great quality. Many members on this site will recommend the same:cool:

the guy I bought it from took 2 weeks to mail it so I spent money on a jet kit for the 400 carb so I dont think I'll used it, I might sell it and buy R front shocks
