i have a z400 and i am looking for some more power...but i still want a reliable engine that doesnt make me go broke...i saw big bore kits are around $225 if i buy this how reliable would the engine be and would i need cams or anything else?

you could do it but its just a piston and sleeve more or less. To do it right and to get good power your going to want to do more than that. A heavy duty cam chain isn't a bad idea either

since the z400 is liquid cooled there is room to bore it out bigger than an air cooled ex400. so no need for a new sleeve. not sure but i would think that a liquid cooled motor doesn't have a sleeve.

Most water cooled engine's are sleeved. A lot have coated aluminum sleeves, but they still have sleeves.

A also agree with 2nd poster.. for a good increase you're gonna want to also look at a cam and port work.

To build an arm ripping 440 your going to want to do it all. My point was to build a nice 440 your not going to be spending $200. Look to spend anywheres between $1000-$3000 to get a full built 440.
