After weeks of trying to figure out why my machine would only work to ¼ throttle, or wide open (I know, wide open is cool), with no ¼-3/4 throttle, guess what I found. I did all the right things; cleaned the carb & looked for wear, adjusted the float, replaced the float valve & seat, inspected the slide-vacuum release plate & seal, checked for air leaks. Sudco technical gave me advice during this long process, and would not entertain the idea of the clip changing positions on its’ own (a dumb idea, I know).
About to give up and just run the stock carb, when I noted the needle clip apparently changed positions from the last time I disassembled it. Hah, I was right!

So I showed Sudco this picture:

Guess what else. Found out that Sudco has an MX version of the FCR39 with improved needle-clip retention. You can see it on their web site PDF catalog. Sudco technical said it wouldn’t work with my FCR39, but I bought them anyway. Turns out it’s a perfect fit. See picture of spring and collar, with shorter nut. Seems like it was designed for my FCR???
Why didn’t they sell me the MX version of the FCR39 for a quad application?

I had that happen once, but the needle got stuck in the bore on its way back down. With the nut in your picture having the hole the needle was actually all the way up against the top cover.

Nice info, I have worn out a needle from the clip moving up and down. How much was that new retention screw?
