I have a 400ex and about every month I will check the oil and it won't even be reading or it will be very low. has anyone had this problem. if so could u please reply and tell what is wrong. thanks

from what i understand 400ex's do use oil. I dont think you have to worry about it unless there is blue smoke coming out.

maybe, but I seems like i regularly put in a whole quart and there is sometimes a little blue smoke

Yeah that is defnitely something to worry about. It is either in need of a fresh top end or some valve seals. Probably need new rings and a fresh hone at a minimum and might as well do valve seals while its apart.

does it smoke right after u first put oil in maybe your over filling it. idk know about atvs but cars smoke a little bit when u over fill them.

well if it smokes then u will probably need a new set of rings. That happened to me and i put new rings in and honed it and it worked really good.

buy a two stroke then it will be normal to burn oil!

Hey h400exrydr - That's encouraging. Mine's smoking at high rpm and i'm about to tear it down and put new rings & valve seals in...and hone the cylinder, I really hope the smoking stops.
