While browsing through a magazine stand, I noticed a copy of the June 2001 ATV Sport magazine was on the floor and it happened to have a 20 pipe comparison for the 400 EX. For those who have seen this, sorry for resurrecting old news but for those who haven't this article titled "Up In Smoke" is the most detailed pipe comparison I've ever seen for the 400 EX. First of all, none of the pipes made more than 1.9 peak HP over stock. Secondly, the majority of the power that was gained was at low and mid rpms. I'll try and summarize what pipe made the most HP at certain speeds.

Damn... This didn't come out the way I set it up and it looks a mess but ****, I should have been working anyway... The numbers are there for those who care to line them up. I'm just trying to provide more info on pipes since there's not a day that goes by that guys aren't asking "Which pipe?" I'm undecided on a pipe personally because of the minimal gains, noise and price per HP. I'm a part time power junky and I'm determined to transform this undertuned sled into a fire breathing monster shortly...

There are lots of places to ride here because back in the 70's this was motorcross heaven. I ride the power lines mostly which lead to other trails. Also, the train tracks nearby allow me access to other atv trails. It's definitley good riding here...

There was also an exhaust shootout from an issue of Dirt Wheels early part of 2001. Someone posted it in a Yahoo Groups-TRX400EX site. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TRX400EX/files/Dirt%20Wheels%20exhaust%20shootout/
